Are any of the GLC43's brakes doing this; or is it just the 250d and 300?

Reason I ask is that the on the other 43 models (C43, E43, GLE43, ...) the brake pads are of a different spec than the standard trims. They dust like crazy but they do not squeal.

Same thing goes for my C450 vs a C300. My pads are quiet but very dirty. It's especially noticeable with the black accented rims.

Glad I came here

I too have noticed the squeeling. Honestly I THOUGHT it would disappear .
Well now that its December and -15 degrees in Chicago, everyone hears me coming! Not only does it happen backing up, but now traveling!!

I purchased in July and my St. Charles Service dept basically say, Dont come in....call us after the first of the year. Hopefully a fix from MB will be in place.

Pissed that I didnt get Audi...lo

We are prospective buyers in CA and have asked 1-2 MB sales folks to see how they respond on this.. will update on response we get.

Have any other prospective buyers asked this of their sales manager contact recently, and if so gotten any "real" replies/ acknowledgement of an issue?

This is the response I just got, but from an SCAL dealer, perhaps in that warmer weather not many people are having brake issue?

RESPONSE - "This is not something I have heard about from any of our clients here. The car is covered by full warranty if you have concerns like that. It's a great car."

There have definitely been plenty of "real" replies from various sales and service departments, acknowledging that the issue exists for a number of 2016 GLC300 vehicles and that there is a bulletin out from MB regarding the issue. While virtually nothing can be done right now, they are working on a solution and it is coming, although there is no date set in stone yet. Seems like mostly everyone has been getting the same responses from both sales/services at dealerships and also MB customer service.

To my knowledge, this issue has not been affecting 2017 GLC vehicles, unless people here have reported otherwise.

I wonder if the automatic parking brake is part of this issue?

I cycled the E brake on and off a couple of times this morning prior to backing out to test your hypothesis. No meaningful decrease in noise. I played with it again when I got to work and tried all combinations of parking brake/backing up that I could think of an it still squeals. Bummer. I was hoping you found a smoking or shrieking gun.

Glad you had a chance to test this out. My wife "squealed" off to work before I had a chance to test it out. I'm still not a fan of the auto-brake function.

Mercedes-Benz has come out with a revised bulletin and fix for the brake squeal as of Dec 22nd. My dealer contacted me immediately upon receiving the bulletin. He was correct, in that, they redeveloped the brake pad compound. He ordered the parts and said the fronts were available, but the rears were not. He was expecting the rears in a few more days.

LI42.10-P-063978 (front) and LI42.10-P-065058 (rear)

Part numbers are A 001 989 87 51 for brake paste
A 000 420 81 00 for front pads
A 000 420 52 00 for rear pads

Weird. I called my service center, and they claim they have not received any bulletins from MBUSA. I even read off the numbers to them. Annoying.

Great to hear Jetfuture and good luck to you - would you be ok to inquire with your dealer if they anticipate the same issue on 2017's as well, or is the bulletin/ brake issue for the 2016 only. Thank you!

That does not look like an updated fix. The LI42.10-P-063978 is the same fix they applied to our GLC back in May of ths year, which did not fix the issue. Maybe the rear fix is new?

I've had this problem on my 2016 GLC for a few months now. It seems to be getting worse. I took the GLC to Mercedes Benz of Beaverton (Oregon, US) and they mentioned the redacted technical bulletin. They are also waiting on an updated fix. I hope it comes out soon.

In the meanwhile, here's what I am dealing with 95% of the time I back out of a parking lot/garage. I've seen people cover their ears - very embarrassing

I wonder how loud everyone else' brakes are.

Bought car in June, issue popped up in September or so. First went to dealership, they couldn't replicate; but adviser said they've been getting the same issue with other customers. Brought car back again and they held it overnight and were able to replicate it (i.e., gave the cars brakes time to cool). Ordered new pads, which took two months. Fast forward to this week, dropped the car off on Wednesday evening. They replaced the pads Thursday, called me last evening to say the squeal is still there. They've opened a case with MB while I drive an E-class sedan.

After parked in the garage in ~30 degree weather, backing up it gave a similar squeal. Not NEARLY as bad as my GLC, but still there. I've owned a lot of cars in my life and this is the one with the highest sticker price, and yet the only one that's given me these troubles.

I'm going to start eyeing the lemon law protection, since I have about 6 more months to eye that. By that time the supposed recall should happen as well, otherwise I'm going to raise a stink to get my money back.

Severely disappointing situation.

Thumbs down 2016 and 2017 GLC300 LEMON!

Originally noticed the squeaking noise when reversing my car at 4,600 miles. Took the car in and the breaks were replaced but then it did it again at 11,000 miles. This was rediculous so I took it in again and they gave a loner 2017 GLC300. I've had the 2017 loner for 4 months and at around 4,000 miles this one started squeaking!!! Our dealer still has our 2016 in the lot because they can't seem to resolve the problem. We were told that if they "throw some grease on it" then the issue may be temporarily resolved. However, this is subpar solution to a $50,000 vehicle!!! I also think there's an issue with the automatic parking break. I'm honestly concerned about my and my family's safety in this vehicle. We have owned Mercedes since 1991 and have never had an issue to this extent. Mercedes is definitely not what it used to be. Beyond disappointed with our purchase. We still don't know when it will be fixed.

Nice dealer to give you a loaner for 4 months. The screeching is a big nuisance but I do not think it is a safety issue.

Same old Stuff different day

Just took my 2017 into dealer today and spoke with them about the brake issue. It has not been resolved as of yet. The SM said they issued 2 fixes, one was pads and one was shims, neither have worked. They are still waiting on resolution from MB. I have 2200 miles. I did a european delivery in late September and drove it for 2 weeks there and put on 1300 miles with no issues. When I received it here in the states and put on another 300+ miles is when mine started to happen. It was like a reverse of what was mentioned in previous post that should happen, the more the brakes got "worn down" the louder it got vs what you would have expected.

I'm convinced it's an issue with the brake pad compound they apply not holding up/degrading due to cold temps. For such a complicated vehicle, it's almost ironic that the glaring issue with it is something as simple as the brakes.

I have a 2017 and get the squeal when reversing. I have 2500 miles on the vehicle and judging from the comments in this thread I'm expecting it to get worse with time/wear.

Has anyone tried installing compatible non-OEM brake pads, with any success?

I realize the LI numbers are identical. It IS an updated fix because the bulletin is now dated December 22, 2016. Tell you dealer to look for the bulletin with the Dec 22nd date. Whatever the case, my dealer ordered the parts, and they will be replacing both front and rear brake pads on Friday.

Both of their GLC300 service loaners developed the squeal problem last week during the cold Chicago weather. On both the loaners, it was the front brakes that were squealing.

I just spoke to the service manager at my dealer & he confirmed that there is a fix on its way, so this updated TSB is legit. He currently has front brake pads but is waiting for rears. My sense was that MB has a fairly larger number of orders for the new pads to fulfill related to this.
