Continental or Pirelli's

Just a thought here. I noticed that most of the GLC's come with either Continental or Pirelli tires. I know that these 'run flat' tires are a little noisier than regular tires. I was wondering if one of these tires is quieter than the other. This kind of relates back to the acoustic glass. Some people without the acoustic glass say they hear nothing some say there is some noise. So I wonder instead of the glass being the problem, the tires are.

I hope that was not too confusing. I would like to see other people chime in and talk about noise levels and the tires they have.

Thanks

2 GLCs, both with Pirelli's, neither with acoustic glass. Both very quiet! No complaints here.

Acoustic glass and Pirelli's very quiet

Non-acoustic and Pirelli's...they were overfilled and I just adjusted the pressure today so the jury is still out on the noise but they weren't very noisy so that should only improve.

I have the Continental tires. Interesting.

JEVA Apr 28, 2016 11:17 PM

What size rims and are they all season tires? I don't recall if they even offered a performance tire. I have 19" all seasons.

MITCH1975 Apr 28, 2016 11:31 PM

19" all season. You get what you get. I was actually hoping for the Pirelli's.

19 inch

19in Pirelli's non acoustic glass no environment noise only road noise from the tires which isn't veey audible unless road condition is crap.

My early impression of the Pirellis is favorable. Road noise is minimal. And in the wet, grip is good. The upside is Pirelli is the tire supplier to F1, and its likely some of this technology will migrate to their road tires. The downside is, although Pirelli is an Italian firm, its owned by a Chinese company.

Acoustic glass + Pirelli; actually, quietest Mercedes (including wind, engine, tires, chassis, car body) of any of the 13 various M-B models I've owned over many years. However, I haven't owned a recent Mercedes S-Class -- purportedly the world's quietest car, even quieter than the Rolls Royce -- my 71 S-Class was no match for the GLC. :)

In Oz, I do not think we have acoustic glass, have HUD. We have Pirelli and I'm happy with quiet and wet performance, only 4500km so far. Running on 20" AMG rims as part of pack. Pirelli only brand seen so far in Dealer yards and showrooms. Do not think Continental yet import them. Will need some more GLC sold so market forces can bring in other brands and hopefully a number of choices and cheaper prices, currently around $770au a casing...ouch !

My GLC has Continental tires, and I have 19" rims.

MITCH1975 Apr 29, 2016 11:35 PM

doctor4 how is your noise level?

tron786 Apr 30, 2016 03:06 PM

20inch Bridgestone's on mine.
No acoustic glass. No road noise but plenty wind noise!

Continental DW, hands down best daily driver tire ever, extremely comfy & quiet, amazing dry grip, absurd Grip in the wet.
