Wheel Lug Specs

Folks:

I want to buy some McGard wheel locks for my 2017 GLC. Does anyone know either the McGard product number or the specs (measurements) for the MB lug nuts?

Did it not come with the MB ones installed or do you not like them?
Every GLC300 I've seen in the US has the already installed. Didn't have a choice.

Perhaps a good idea to just order the MB locks from your dealer. Most likely a bit more expensive, but guaranteed to fit.

I can check when I get home but this might be them:

http://www.benzpartsdirect.com/oe-me...-benz/66470155

Friggin window sticker showed $140 for the wheel locks.
I looked at them the other day and the kit that comes with the car has the original lug bolts in it that the locks replaced. Funny thing is the original bolts were obviously on the car at some point and then removed because they are scratched up on the mating "cone". Dealer installed? Some folks say factory but that would be odd to pull lugs off after putting them on while still at the factory.

Nope. Mine didn't come with wheel locks. I could have negotiated for them, but I didn't feel the need at the time since I got a great deal!

Interesting. Cost too much anyhow.

I do know that my GLC300 has a M14x1.5 thread if that helps a bit.

I'm guessing these pieces are a dealer installed option.

When I was going through the ordering/option process with the sales person the wheel lock option came up and I declined. Thus my GLC came without wheel locks.

For what it's worth although I know your not looking for MB parts. They came on my GLC300 and are black.

MB GLC
The correct McGard is 28317. I recently purchased and they are a perfect fit. The top is black same as the original.

Nice info. Wish I could have saved the $.

I noticed that ours, that were on the sticker, were install most certainly at the dealer due to scratches on the take off lug bolts. Took the rear wheels off to install mud flaps the other day. A$$holes barely tightened the lock lugs. I bet they were maybe half tight at best.

This is our first MB. I would expect this from Chevy (i.e. My Vette) but not MB. Guess I'm wrong. Oh, and all four tires were inflated to 45psi (measured when quite cold). That is way over spec for 18" front tires.

A gaggle of MB's
45 PSI is the factory pressure for shipping - when a new rig arrives during check-in - the pressures are supposed to be changed to shop-spec or fuel filler door spec.

Wheel locks - if on the spec sheet/window sticker - wheel locks are installed at the VPC - and the "black box" comes delivered in the glove box with the lock and the original lugs that were removed at the VPC.

"Smart dealers" move the black-box to the trunk so it is where it needs to be when you, or Roadside, need it.

As Roadside is national coverage - including 3rd party service providers - you don't want to misplace the black-box - since Roadside does not carry full-set-all-Mercedes-wheel-locks.

Same locks (and black box) can be purchased at the dealer.

Thanks for the info. The 45psi makes more sense now.
VPC is what?
The dealer left the locks in the glove box but I put them down by the tow hook several days later.
Cheers!

My ED GLC came without wheel locks. McGard 283457 seem to be black on top and chrome on the bottom - will the chrome show?

I'm assuming that p# a0019901707 is the original all black MB wheel locks?

I'm pretty sure the correct McGard codes are 28174 (chrome) and 28374 (black). They don't have the GLCs listed on their site yet, but these models are common to all the listed Mb cars that run wheels from 18"-21". I checked C, E, and GLA class and all returned the same parts.

Just found out that these will be too short for the GLC43 with 20" wheels

I think it should be 28317. Aren't they 14 x 1.5 x 45mm?

GLC300
A year ago I contacted McGard at info@mcgard.de and gave them the details of my car since the GLC was not on their website. It took a couple of days but they responded with the Following:

Hello,

thank you for your email.

The references for a Mercedes GLC 300 with origianl alloy wheels are the following:

28174SU: Thread size M14x1,5, seat R14, shaft length 27,0 mm
28017SU: Thread size M14x1,5, seat R14, shaft length 45,0 mm

Please check the measurements and compare the shaft lenght with your original bolt/srcew.

You can buy the set at Halfords.

Best regards,

pp Sonja Roth

I took one lug bolt off and measured it and ordered from Amazon.com accordingly. Hope this helps

As info, I had the wheel locks removed from my factory build and replaced with a Heated Sterring Wheel. It does appear that the locks are being included on all dealer orders but can be changed if you order.

$140 for wheel locks seemed to be very expensive.

$140 for Mcgard is very expensive indeed. Hell, McGard 28017 is listed on Amazon for $22.99 and eligible for Amazon Prime.

Thank you sir. Just what I needed. My used 43 didn't come with wheel locks.
