GLC Prepaid Maintenance and Extended Warranty

Hi Folks,

I know everyone here does a good amount of research before investing in the different options out there with MB cars. I just got a Mercedes GLC 300 4 matic and will be taking delivery in a couple of days. I was hoping to get some feedback on the rates I'm getting on extended warranty and prepaid maintenance so I can know if I need to shop around / negotiate more or just go ahead!

Prepaid Maintenance - $1065 for 4yr/40K. I know the common thought process is to pay out of pocket for the first one and then purchase a 20/30/40K so you get a B A and B service. That said, I compared a lot of rates and this seems pretty competitive so planning on going for all 4 right away. Thoughts?

Extended Warranty - I'm getting 7yr/75K for $2200. Should I be looking for something better?

Thanks everyone!

A gaggle of MB's
1) Prepaid Maintenance sounds very fair

2) Extended warranty sounds fair too

I'd say both are quite straight up.

I shopped around a little bit after surfing through MB forums and quite a few folks recommended MB of Austin...They really have competitive prices...I'm getting 7yr/75K for $1700. Would recommend to anyone looking for extended warranties.

Question - So if I buy the warranty in Austin but I live in Dallas, it would be OK to go to a dealer in Dallas with warranty issues ? Do they have national coverage ?

What is the deductible for the $1700 for 7yr/75k ?

Is the same true for maintenance ? Use anywhere in the country.

This is my first MB. I understand that MB needs to be services once a year compared to most cars that need it twice a year. What is the typical cost of getting a GLC serviced ? Is the cost same per year ? I understand that major services would be more.

Yes, you can go for prepaid maintenance packages depending on what makes sense based on the pricing offered. Mercedes does A and B services which alternate every year starting with the A service. The A service is cheaper and B is more expensive. I've heard the 4th service which is a B service turns out to be pretty expensive if paid out of pocket. Most people suggest paying for the first service out of pocket and then buying a 3 service package (B A B) at a good rate. I'm getting 4 services (2 As and 2 Bs) for $1065 which I think is pretty competitive so going for it. Car can be serviced at any dealership nationwide.

So we can buy extended warranty and maintenance package in Austin and use either anywhere in the US. Very convenient !

Do you happen to have the A, B, A and B individual cost breakdown ?

As I understand, you are getting:
7yr/75k for $1700
2A+2B maintenance for $1065

Are they both from MB Austin ?

Thanks.

Hey buddy...I have the individual breakdowns but I think they vary quite a bit depending on location and dealer.. on this forum I've seen people say $170 for the A service and $270 for the B. Here in Minneapolis, the standard rates are ~$200-250 for A service and $400-450 for the B service. I even spoke to 1 dealer who told me that the 4th B service (at 40K miles), if I tried to pay out of pocket, would cost $1000+ alone. Not sure if that's true or I heard something wrong. Either ways, I did not look around for other prepaid maintenance programs as I think the $1065 that my Minneapolis dealer is offering is pretty good. The extended warranty is through MB of Austin.

I'm ready to be flamed, but what the heck costs so much for the A and B services? I understand that inspections do take time, but why can't almost anyone do an inspection? I can understand the costs for oil, filters, fluid, belts(??) changes and replacements, but these don't cost that much- even at the dealer.
Anyone care to breakdown the $150+ cost for the oil change? Which is about all A service is (or maybe there were some cabin and other filters) And for B, what's the big cost item?

TIA

You make a good point. I'm not much of a car expert but I do know that a lot of people say that you can do the maintenance yourself using the right MB products (oils, etc.). Either ways, this should help you a little -

https://www.mbusa.com/vcm/MB/Digital...Y16_GLC_MM.pdf

Check out Page 10 onward. It breaks down the A and B services, although not by cost.

Yup,I've seen and read it. So, many of the items are check and inspect. And service B isn't all that much more- a filter or 2. It's not like changing plugs, changing transmission fluid, replacing timing belt, etc.. usually more costly actions. I mean, sorry, but I think most of us are pretty competent with checking our windshields or tire pressure for example. True, some may never due so, and I understand doing so isn't free, but to keep a warranty valid, is that really necessary? So I do scratch my head some for a manufacturer essentially saying to "play be these rules of inspections" or ones warranty may be invalid. I'm thinking that most of the time, MB will stand by the product as long as one can prove that the items are done. So one doesn't have to pay MB to do it- though, many will do just that.. even myself for convenience. But really, it looks like if one changes the oil and filter, and a couple of other filters, that should cover most issues.

Is it true that if you lease a new vehicle with MB, you are obligated to scheduled maintenance done at an MB dealership?

I believe that is illegal. You merely have to have records showing that the maintenance was performed.

2016 GLC and 2017 BMW 530xi M-Sport
Last week we had our first service done and I was going to buy the prepaid for the next 3 services. My dealer claimed that I could not do that, as I had to buy those before my 10,000 mile service. Any ideas, as the below strategy has been recommended times on these forums by multiple members. What would the expected cost be? Thanks!

Can someone please provide a contact name and number/email for MB Austin that sold them the prepaid maintenance packages. I live in RI, own a 2012 E550.

At the time of purchase I bought 3 prepaid maintenance packages and Extended Warranty from west coast authorized dealership but they are not returning my emails at this time.

All prepaid that I have previously paid for when I bought the car have been used.

Thanks in advance,

Michael

My_1st_MB: Sorry to go off thread, but, I saw that you are in Dallas as well. I'm looking to purchase a GLC300 and emailing to two local dealers (Plano, Grapevine). The best I could get is 4% off MSRP for a 2017 GLC order.

Can you share your experience regarding discounts in the Dallas area.

Thanks.

Great info guys. Quick question. Can I buy the prepaid main at another dealership after I purchased my car? Is there a time limit after purchasing where I need to buy? Service contract sales from the service department? Does the same apply for extended warranty? Thankz

Sorry, i've been meaning to type a response here but have been traveling off lately. Couple of things here - extended warranties must be purchased within first 60 days of getting delivery of the new car, and prepaid maintenance can be bought at any time (some dealers will tell you to buy it before the first A service). At the heart of it, you are basically purchasing an additional insurance or locking in a cost for a service routine in advance. Thus, by definition you will get much better rates if purchased now than later. That said, depending on the deals offered, it could make sense to pay for an A service out of pocket and prepay for 3 services (including 2 of he expensive B ones) after that in advance. Would be best to ask your dealer the best time to do that. In my case a prepaid package for 4 services was a very fair price and so it made sense to go for it right away.

As for the questions in people to get in touch with at MB Austin, I spoke with Brett Liming. And yes, it was hard to get hold of these guys as they are not great at responding to VM or messages left for them. I had to call a few times. He offered $1700 on 7yr/75k extended warranty.

Pricing

Brett (512)381-7382 @ MB Austin has offered the following
7yr/75k $1700
4 yr $1275

Erin Mahre (707)521-3996 has offered the following
7yr/75k $1700
2 yr $750
3 yr $975
4 yr $1275

Both, EWL and Prepaid Maintenance, can be bought over the phone within a week of purchasing the car (you need to wait a few days so that your car is updated on the MB system).

You are paying too much. $2500 is the MSRP. I got mine for $1700 and there are several dealers selling it at that price. Ask your dealer to price match. That's what my dealer did. And to your question, yes it is fully refundable within original warranty period of 4 years.

Price increase for pre-paid maintenance

Just got off the phone with local MB dealership. They said the MSRP on 4 years maintenance is now $1475 and that the MB website is wrong.

Anybody else running in to this
