GLC300 run flat thread wear problem.
 

I got a brand new 2016 GLC 300 6months ago. Put 15k miles it. Run flat tires are completely bald. Was previous owner of 2 BMW all with run flats also. Those usually went for about 22-25k miles before I had to replace. The Pirelli OEM run flats on the MB GLC are terrible. Called dealer, they mentioned some customers run flats on GLC start balding at 12-14k miles. Mine at 15k are bare as a baby's bottom. Going with regular tires and a spare.


Outside my issue with the terrible run flat tires, this car is AWESOME. Best car I have owned so far. Super quiet, roomy and comfy. Great power. Awesome sport and sport+ driving modes.

Where are you putting the spare? And what are you doing about jack and its accessories? I'd like to go that route if it's doable.

By chance do you have a 4Matic? I am only getting 18k-20k on my C300 4Matic.

I hope my tires last longer than 15k. I think they're suppose last to 25 to 30k?

YMMV. Assuming pressures and alignment are correct, then your driving style and road surfaces in your area are the top two contributors to tire wear.. My wife's 4matic 300GLC has 24k on it and all tires are wearing evenly with 5/32 tread remaining.

I'm disappointed in the lack of mileage am getting on the oe 19'' Pirelli tires. Based on remaining tread, expect to get about 32,000 miles. One would expect a tire with a 600 treadwear rating would do much better.

I'm disappointed because on my GMC Envoy the oe Michelin Latitude tires went 77,000 miles. The replacement Michelin Latitudes lasted 75,000 miles. The truck currently at 186,000 miles on its third set of tires.

Am currently in the process of deciding which tire to replace the oe tires.

Don't forget that tread depth isn't the only indicator of tire wear. The problem with the Firestone tires implicated in the Ford Explorer problems 15 years ago was that the tread didn't wear out soon enough. The tires were failing internally before the tread "wore out." I would be a little scared about a tire that seems to have lasted 77,000 miles--especially on an SUV.

I'm having the same issue, the tread is going down fast on all tires but also, I'm having an issue with uneven wear. I'm headed to the dealer soon to investigate why my front pax tyre is wearing significantly quicker then the rest.

I do often engage in "spirited driving" as they say, and I read in another thread that by doing so, you eat away at tread much quicker.

17 GLC300 4MATIC @ 34,000 KM / 21,100 MI

My car is 17 GLC300 4MATIC @17K miles and I am looking for new tires, my current tire is Pirelli Scorpion Verde summer performance tire 255/45 r20 with 20' AMG multi-spoke wheel. I never shopped tires myself, does anyone have recommendations of All Season tire? regular or run flat both work for me.

A good place to start your tire search is Tire Rack. Their selection is extensive. If your considering conventional tires there are many choices. The opposite is true if shopping for extended mobility tires. For example, when looking at conventional tires there were 33 choices, but only four choices when considering run-flats.

At 33,000 miles my oe Pirelli Scorpion tires are worn out. Am very dissatisfied, as the tire treadwear rating indicated a tread life much greater than 33,000.

After much research have decided on Bridgestone Drive Guard extended mobility tires.

I've been driving on extended mobility tires the past 19 years and based on experience am a proponent. As with most everything in life there are compromises, and tires are no exception. All circumstances considered, the overriding factor for me is the ability to drive on with a puncture.

They also have a 60,000 mile warranty.

Stupid question, is there any other version of Run Flats that would work? I have a lease and was wondering if i put a different brand would I get dinged for that.

The manufacturer of the car can't make you use a particular brand unless they supply them free. As long as the tires meet the specs. such as the DriveGuards, you are good to go.

One of my 4 is losing tread fast and I am only at 14K and the rest are not much better. Found a spare kit and it fits fully under my storage door so NON runflats for me! Anyone have experience with Vredestein Quadtrac 5s?

Similar experience here - suffered two destroyed tires/blowouts early on, of the remaining two originals, down to 5/32" just short of 20,000 miles. Vehicle is almost always driven with no extra passengers, so early on I 1) had MBZ dealer do a 4 wheel alignment (it was off) and then 2) found the pressure that resulted in best wear across the tires - 41 PSI rear, 37 front. Vehicle is rear wheel drive only, 19" rims. Original Pirelli Scorpion tires.

On another note, our Mini Countryman was refitted w/Bridgestone Driveguards ~40 months back and we have been very pleased w/wear and ride; I'll be repeating this with the MBZ GLC300.

Same here. Bought a spare and jack and its all good. We got 17K miles out of the POS Pirelli 18" runflats.

anyone know of a good Pirelli run flat alternative? That wont have to be changed again prior to sending lease back
