GLC phone holder

Really struggling to find a proper Phone holder for my GLC 220D. Don't like the CD slot holders. Any suggestions please. Like the idea of putting it here on the dash if possible. Or to the right hand side of the steering wheel. Mine is Right handed model. |
I tried a vent clip, but the vent keeps rotating - so that wont work
What kind of a phone do you have? - my iphone & plus doesnt fit in that opening |

Hi I have a iPhone 6. True it doesn't fit exactly into that slot. I tried my old holder into the vents and like you they keep moving. V annoying.

Thanks. Saw some of these. Just a little worried the passengers will keep knocking off it.

I have this boy! (£10 in the UK - I think about $15 in US)
I really like it. Well made and robust for the price and has the phone at a great angle - for me anyway. Obviously a very personal thing. Only downside is that it uses a cupholder but I rarely need both and use the one nearest for drinks. |
Looks like it could be the one for me Can I ask of it is strong enough to type and use the touch screen. Sometimes the arm can bend when using ?
|
It works fine for me. I think it is about as rigid as it can be - with an arm there's always a bit of flex. I don't type on it much - with RHD, it doesn't work too well if you are right-handed.
At the price, I wasn't expecting much but have been quite impressed how well designed and solid it is. |

https://www.ebay.ie/itm/231354632384<br/> Found this on eBay. Do you think it will stick to the silver trim on the dash in the blue circle.? Have looked at videos of it on YouTube and it looks like it just might. |
I've always used Brodit kits with most car. I've got to say I'm really liking Mercedes SatNav and the traffic information is just as good as Waze. My phone is just on charge in the cubby hole out of sight. Neat and tidy.

KUDA has two mounts available, http://www.kudausa.com/mercedes-glc-...ack-a2001.html, which mounts on the passenger side of the center stack, and http://www.kudausa.com/mercedes-glc-...ack-a2002.html, which mounts near the driver's window.
KUDA claims that both mount without drilling or other damage to the vehicle, and both are hollow to allow routing of cables inside. I'm looking seriously at the a2002, especially if I can source some Espresso MB-Tex or leather to cover it in. Note that you will need a phone holder to attach to the mount to actually hold the phone. (I have no connection with KUDA, except as a potential customer.) |

However I do appreciate that the experience may differ in other regions where perhaps the maps aren't up-to-date, aren't automatically updated, have no live traffic information, and Mercedes Me isn't available. That to me would be a very different experience. But given the choice, I totally agree, I don't get the point for a phone mount either. Mine is inside the elastic band in the cubby with a lightning cable attached. |

No, you can open the center compartment, I have mine open (except for the pic) all the time because I have my dash cam plugged in there. It's just the way I haphazardly set my phone on there for the pic - very low. Remember that cover slide-pivots back so it doesn't flap way open.
The one I have is magnetic so I can put the phone at different levels or rotate it as needed. You can find them cheap on Amazon (they go on sale often)...it's worth a try. I scoffed at it when i first saw it. |

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...8ef8283100.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...3062a663e8.jpg I find that with an iphone 7+ the cubby opens up with enough room, unless I have it plugged in, in which case the cable blocks it ever so slightly. But in this case, I just open it first before I plug the phone in. Also, if you were to mount the metal plate lower on the phone (thereby raising it up on the mount), it might not have that problem. If you do decide to go with a vent mount, you can always close that particular vent so the air doesn't blow on it. |

The magnetic dash mounts sounds like a good idea. It says "no residue adhesive". But it's hard to imagine that. Especially since temps get up to 100F in the summer here in S Calif.

Hi, I'm new to the forum and saw this thread and thought I'd share the one I went with.
It attaches really nice to the windscreen via a very strong suction cup (no gluey adhesive) and telescopes out to reach pretty far outwards and can work on either right or left side of steering wheel or wherever. Only thing is its pretty top heavy and must rest on the dashboard to support its weight and it is sort of pricey but very study and looks like it could last for a long time. Here's a link for it https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 And here are some pics of it in my GLC (though my cell not's in it as was using it to take the pics, LOL) https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...8569abd347.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...2b550ead81.jpg I also purchased this one and it's not bad not but it didnt telescope out enough and also it had the sticky adhesive to its suction cup https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Hope this helps anyone who wants something similar to layout. |

Funny, mine fell off about a week or two ago during a hot day. Haven't decided what I'm going to do about it yet, so for now I'm back to my CD slot holder. While I won't go the epoxy route since there's no trim, I might look to mount it a little higher on the dash horizontally so its weight is working with the adhesive instead of against it. Not ideal, but it's strangely difficult to find a setup that works for this vehicle.
I agree this is a difficult vehicle for mounting a phone. |
What Appears to be a GREAT phone mount solution!
Now I just put this in, so it has yet to stand the test of time, but so far, I LOVE this solution for my GLC. I installed a Proclip mount (not the holder, just the mount). This creates a nice, flat, perfectly angled surface onto which I installed a Wizgear magnetic mount for my iPhone 7+. It's only been in for a couple days, but it holds the phone solidly in just the right place at just the right angle. And the installation didn't come close to scratching my lovely wood console. So far - VERY happy!

You'll experience the passenger knees will keep on knocking it out of place. Been a proclip fan for years.. And many cars. The solution for the GLC did not work for me. |

I've attempted to attach a photo. As Spain suggested, I can see where the passenger knees might be an issue (since the mount doesn't lie exactly flush with the center console), but it seems pretty solidly in place and I do the vast bulk of my driving alone. If there's a better solution out there, I'd love to hear about it! Worst case, I'm out $30.

I tried this mount () for a bit and it actually held great when stuck to the dash, but I started to worry about the long-term effects of the adhesive on the dash. Also, anything that's stuck to the dash will block the sun from hitting that spot, which may cause uneven fading over time, so I decided to remove it. There was a bit of residue after a month or two of it on, but it came off without too much effort. The mount also wasn't particularly attractive compared to the design of the rest of interior (my wife gave me a look of wtf the first time she got in and saw it).
I tried another mount for the spot next to the screen and it was great, but it also fell off after a while, since it's hanging on upside down and also has the combined weight of a phone. I'm now looking for a mount to stick on the side near the driver's knee but that brings the phone up to eye level, so hopefully it won't block anything important and won't leave any unsightly residue. Also picked up an iPhone X, so wireless charging would be a nice bonus, but at this point I'm not too picky. |

I have bought a magnetic mount and installed it inside the central storage compartment - see picture. One of the benefits of this installation is that you can still close the storage area so that the installation becomes completely invisible (if you place it at the right place, it will close even if you use the removable cupholders). In addition to the magnetic holder I have also bought some large metal plates as I found that the ones originally included with the magnet were a bit small for my phone, but you might not have to do this depending on your phone (mine is a Oneplus 3t and is quite heavy. I have actually stuck the metal plates inside the phone's case rather than on the phone itself). To power the phone you can use either use the power source inside the storage area (just make sure you use a power adapter that isn't too big otherwise you won't be able to close the lid), or you can run a cable from the central storage bin. This is probably a better solution as it allows you to use the Carplay/Android Play plug that is in there (I have ordered an ODB converter to be able to use Android Auto, I should get this next week). Running the cable to the central storage area is actually very easy, it only takes a few minutes to do. Happy to give more information on that if someone is interested. This is the mount I have used: And the additional metal plates: |
Hello, please provide details on how you ran USB cable from center console to the cup holder?
Thanks |
Hello awprent.
There is actually a very good video online of someone doing this for her C-Class - it is exactly the same principle. You only need to watch the first 2 minutes of her video, the rest is for a different purpose. Once the console has been lifted up, just put your cable through from underneath, there is a hole in the central cupholder unit that can be used. You need to remember that once you the console is back in place you will not be able to push/pull more of the cable through, so make sure the exact length of cable you need is being fed into the cup holders area. As the console can put quite a bit of pressure on the cable, I have opted for a 'flat' cable rather than a round one - you should be able to see that in my pictures. The only slight tricky bit is removing the silver trim - you have to pull quite hard and remember to press the central button as is explained in the video. You have to pull upwards otherwise you could break some of the retaining clips, although I didn't have an issue in my car. You can also watch another video here where someone shows something similar. Good luck. |

Did you see that in the post immediately before yours I have linked some videos showing how to lift the central console? Once you've done that it is very easy to run the cable through. It makes bit a lot easier to use Android Auto or Apple Carplay. Good luck. |
I am not a big fan of magnetic holders. I do like the gravity mounts, like the one on the photo. Behind the mount on the air vent sits another, small one. Its sole purpose is to block the vent from moving sideways. Thos particular holder supports wireless charging. Maybe one day I have a phone with that function.
