Acoustic Glass
New 2017 AMG GLC43. Front window glass marked Acoustic. Side windows not Acoustic. Wind noise worse on passenger side at 72mph. Took to dealer and complained about wind noise. They did a window replacement qualification test on the side windows and both failed. New Acoustic windows on order from Germany and will arrive in about 2 weeks. FYI

Thanks for sharing. I was going to mention wind noise at my next visit. Any idea what the test they performed was? Did they drive it and take noise readings?

If it's anything like the 205 bulletin, there's a procedure of covering certain places with tape and checking it before/after. If there's a noticeable reduction in noise, you change the glass.
They all need it, the noise is wind whipping around the mirror, and the acoustic glass keeps you from hearing it as much. Doesn't actually stop the noise, but keeps it from coming through as badly. |
I'm having the side acoustic glass being installed this week after the dealer confirmed the wind noise. I'm looking forward to seeing how much of a difference it makes. I too have the acoustic windshield but regular side glass.

Interesting. I had the service manager ride with me and he confirmed that there was too much wind noise. Thanks to this forum I already knew about the TSB and acoustic glass cure so put him onto it. It took several weeks to get it ordered and installed but it dampened the wind noise and even some of the road noise noticeably.
I'd hadn't heard of the acoustic windshield glass before. Checking my '17 GLC 300 I apparently don't have it. It would be nice to compare my car to a car with both acoustic windshield and side windows. |
