GLC300 Spare Tire Options
We own a 2017 GLC300. My wife periodically makes long trips cross country to visit family. Distance between viable cities which might have a run-flat tire should she have a flat are well outside the 50 mile limit on the run-flat Perelli tires that come with the vehicle. After our first flat tire at 13,800 miles, we were told that all of the tires on the vehicle needed to be replaced. My wife is a conservative driver so we were very surprised. We talked to our Mercedes dealer and they said that 15 - 17K miles is typical for what you should expect to get out of the Perelli Run-flat tires. I was amazed and am not willing to replace tires every 15K. I set out to purchase regular non-runflat tires, a spare tire and spare tire changing kit. I was shocked to learn that in the USA you cannot purchase a spare tire or spare tire changing kit for the GLC300 (you can purchase these items in Europe). After days of research, I discovered that the spare tire and spare tire changing kit for the 2013 / 2014 GLK 350 fit the 2017 GLC 300. I ended up purchasing high end non-runflat Yokohama tires from Discount tire and I purchased the spare tire and changing kit off of eBay. Everything worked quite well and here are the details:
Replacement Tires (Non- runflat): Yokohama YK740 GTX, Size: 235 / 55 R19 105V XL BSW Replacement Tire Cost: $174.00 per tire + all other Discount Tire fees, Total Tire Cost: $973.23 Spare Tire: 2014 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLK350 17x6 Spare Wheel Rim Vredestein Tire OEM ( 362079764662 ) Spare Tire Cost: $232.69 Emergency Jack / Tool Kit with Compressor: Mercedes X204 GLK350 2014 ( 263167329298 ) Emergency Jack / Took Kit w/ Compressor Cost: $165.00 Total Cost: 1 Spare Tire: $ 232.69 4 Tires: $ 973.23 Jack kit: $ 165.00 $1,370.92 https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...7344fae376.jpg Picture of Spare tire and changing kit together in back of GLC300 where they normally go under the existing cover. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...3ac745c37f.jpg Closeup of spare tire purchased form eBay. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...d2f3e0654b.jpg Closeup of Jack / Changing kit with Compressor purchased from eBay with cover closed. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...e2eb172d6e.jpg Closeup of Jack / Changing kit with Compressor purchased from eBay with cover open |
Very nice. Our 2017 "18 runflats are toast at 15K miles. No good replacement options but to keep buying the same crappy tire. I think I'm going to go this route as well.
How did you verify the proper spare to purchase? Just curious, the 18" version is probably the same but I'd need to research and verify that. From what you can tell is there anything special about the inflator kit? We already have a nice one and I'd prefer to just buy a jack and lug wrench. Thanks for posting this! Rick |

I put it in the back exactly as shown in your photos but I do have a question: Do you have a way of securing it, other than placing one edge under the flange at the top? I'd like to find an easy way to bolt it down rather than relying on gravity to hold it in place. Thanks |

Sabre: I wasn't originally going to get a spare when I replaced the run-flats with Michelins because I haven't had a flat in over 20 years and various Michelin warranties say they'll tow the car to a dealer if it does happens, but inspired by your post I thought it cheap enough back up insurance to follow your lead. Found mine on eBay for $124.50 including shipping. Got it today and pleasantly surprised to find the salvage yard also sent the the compressor. Quite pleased and I thank you.

Thanks I was just wondering if the spare tire kit and the jack kit fits in the under compartment in the trunk for the GLC300 in the USA? Thank you |

The spare tire kit I ordered off ebay from a salvage yard arrived today and after some alteration to the styrofoam holder with a saw I was able to get it into a spot in the trunk.

2016 GLC 300 4MATIC Spare tire OEM
Hi ,
I have 2 run time flats in last 4 months and another one flat now . Trying to go to non run flat by putting a spare tire .My SUV GLC 300 tire spec is 235/60R18 . How do i get spare matching with the vehicle tire spec.? What do I search in ebay ? Any help is appreciated . Thanks you in anticipation. |
It appears that some people are using the 195/75R18 compact spare for the 235/60R18 tire. The difference in overall diameter is 0.4” — the 195 being slightly larger. I don’t know at what point the size difference becomes critical for sustained driving on the larger spare.

Sabre, Rick,
I also have 2017 18" runflats. The info above is for 19" spare. Will these fit my car?. Do you know what spare and rim should I use to go with the 18" (235 60 R18) tyres? Thanks in advance, Tushar. |
Has anyone commented yet that an OEM compact spare is available on the MB USA build tool for 2020 GLC. Dealer should have the part number.

Yep, I contacted two dealers and neither one was able to provide any info on this tire. One of them offered a an alternative which cost $1,600 (complete with jack, etc. and tax).
I ended up buying a spare from 2015 ML350 unused with jack etc., for $320 on Ebay. This information was listed on another thread regarding spare tire. The spare fits nicely in the storage under the trunk floor, you can also lock the trunk floor. I copied the below information from another thread so you can refer to the part numbers, you can do the same as the one who posted this info by ordering new instead of buying used from ML model. They are pretty much added up to the spare tire and kit that I bought from Ebay except that they are new.here are the part numbers I bought for my 2019 GLC4matic base/not Sport Spare wheel 18x4 $314 online oem part # 164-400-00-02 Tire T155/90D18 Tirerack $129.41 Tire valve $5 oem part # 000-400-29-12-64 Wheel Bolts (M14x1.5x26mm) – I bought eEuroparts.com sku 18913. I think oem part# is 0009908307 Tools, including jack, for changing Spare tire, $81.90 oem part # 166-580-69-0 Good luck. |
Where did SteadyRover get his spare? any info to pass on?
