Question Mercedes Me App

Hi --

My wife and I have just purchased a 2022 GLC 300 and the dealership activated the Mercedes Me account for the vehicle and I have downloaded the app to my phone. However, it does not appear you can do anything with the app. Am I missing something?

On the website there is an option to "activate digital extras" which appears to have a cost of $15. It seems a little crazy to me that after spending a large sum of money for a vehicle they are nickel and diming for another $15.

The website also shows a bunch of digital extras that say "Activating.." with some other features that show as "active".

We picked up the car on Saturday and the dealership activated the Mercedes Me stuff on Friday - should it take three plus days for all the stuff to be activated?

And if/when the services are all activated and/or I pay the $15 what features will theoretically be available on the app?

Thanks

Rich

I'm not sure if this has anything to do with your situation or not, but for me, any access to the digital services section of Mercedes Me (both App and Website) stopped working as of approx. last Thursday night (Nov 2nd). I get a "technical error" message...we are working on it...try again.
I reported it to Mercedes Me support on Nov 3rd, but have not heard anything back yet...and it is still not working.

Is this a used car? With new cars, there's a complimentary trial of the service. Used to be 3 years, but starting with MY21 they reduced it to 1 year. After that you have to pay a monthly or annual subscription. Things that can be done from the app are remote locking/unlocking/start, track the location of the car, general vehicle status, trip data, OTA updates, service information, geo fencing and I may forget a couple of things. It sounds like your services are stuck in the activating stage. Maybe the dealership didn't do everything they need to. That was the case when I took delivery of my car. I had to go back. The sales person didn't check all the boxes at first. There are also in vehicle services that come with it, that don't have a counterpart in the app, such as live traffic and online map updates. The latter has a website feature where you can manually download the map updates to install them in the car.

The car is a 2022 that we bought used - it was a dealer loaner car so it only had 14,000 miles on it. I will re-check with the dealership to make sure they activated everything.

Thanks

Also, here's the marketing website to give you an idea what you are supposed to get: https://www.mbusa.com/en/mercedes-me-connect

I sat in the car and clicked on the Mercedes Me app on the screen and got an error message "Cannot Currently Load Content. Do you want to try again?" It also showed the "Wifi" is disconnected. Is that something I have to sign up for / pay for? Or can the car use my phone's data connection?

I'm going to assume that the issue is with the service having an outage but if anyone has any other thoughts please let me know.

I did reach out to the dealer and explained the situation and asked them to validate they did all the right steps.

The Wi-Fi hotspot is separate. You have to sign up for a data plan if you want to use that. I think you get 1GB for free when you sign up, but the rest is a monthly data plan you have to pay for. The Mercedes app in the car is supposedly not supported anymore. Not enough usage.

What I wanted to do was use my phone as the hotspot and have the car us that data connection. Is that possible?

Short answer is no, because the Mercedes me services require a license. Tethering is supported in newer MBUX models for things like the built-in web browser, but that's about it. W/o activating the services, which includes the car's own data connections tethering your phone doesn't do much.

Unless you use your phone's cell connection. As you would if not in the car.

BTW my '21 has 3 years complimentary service. Maybe '22 was the year that they reduced the time.

Yes, it's MY22. I can never remember it properly. Here's the slide from when they rolled out the store in the USA (see footnote).

Does anyone know if the Mercedes Me service is up and running? Our car is back at the dealer because of a steering wheel vibration issue. However, if I go to the website I see this error "Something went wrong. Unfortunately an error has occurred. We are working to resolve the problem as quickly as we can"

If I refresh the page that error goes away but then I see 4 of 14 digital extras active and the rest shows as "activating" but that is the same message I have seen since we picked up the car a week ago.

Thanks

The issue I mentioned in post 2 finally resolved itself for me and I was able to complete the setup of Internet in the Car (Sweden)
I just a moment ago tried to access the digital services section of the store and all seems to be working. I presume there are probably different servers around the globe providing this functionality....so I appreciate the situation could be entirely different for you.
When I took delivery of my car, the dealer activated dozens of services and it took no more than 2 hours or so for everything to "complete". So it sounds like you have a genuine issue for the dealer to sort out!

So this is the response from the dealership

I know Mercedes Me was having an issue last week, so this may be why it is taking longer than normal. Keep an eye on it for a few more days to see if it goes through. If nothing changes, feel free to try to call the Mercedes me connect hotline @ 888-628-7232. They should have full access to your account.

Hi there, I am in same boat as you... just purchased a dealer owner 2022 GLC300 and am also figuring it out. Couple of tips from my experience:

1. For newer Mercedes (like our 2022 model) use the Merecedes Me Connect app, the Mercedes Me app was for 2019 and prior cars.
2. You will have to go to the dealer to get a salesman to register the Primary Driver for Mercedes me connect. The Primary driver can then invite co-users who will also have access to the app and car features. NOTE: When you are working with salesman, Make sure they remove the previous owner. This is important because otherwise they can access app features on your car and track your car, and also you will NOT be able to add co-user, or at least I wasn't, so it took 3 visits to get this resolved. I called the MB Customer Service and they sent me back to dealer/salesman (stand by for the "did you buy the car here?" questions, and attitude change If you say no)
3. I paid $150 for one year of all the Mercedes Me Connect Features. Most useful so far is remote lock/unlock, but have a road trip coming up and will try weather and life traffic out. I got the impression that until I bought the features, I was not able to save individual preferences (colors, memory, radio stations, etc) for my wife and I.
4. You can also access Mercedes Me Connect from a Computer to see in detail which services are enabled or not, and also if your car has Navigation you check the status of the maps in the vehicle and update them yourself. I bought mine in Florida and it still had New Jersey area set up as the local area.. and I couldn't change it until I updated the maps (all mine were 2020 versions, so 23GB later and I have full update for North America downloaded, ready for install tonight)

Thanks for all this info. Literally as I was reading your response my phone dinged me with messages from the Connect app and I can now see info about our car! We had it at the dealership because of an issue with the steering wheel vibrating which we researched and may have required a power steering software upgrade which they did. Maybe they did some other stuff to get the services all up and running.

No problem. So I was all ready for Navigation update and.... as far as I can tell the car only has 2 USB-C sockets in the armrest, but I have the original USB thumb drive so guess I am going shopping for an adapter. I went through the car menu though and didn't find anything about how exactly to do a manual update of Navigation.

2020 GLC300 touring version (but I miss my '93 300SE W140 tank)
Since the car is new to you and you bought it from a dealer, you should have been offered at least one year of free OTA map updates. If you bought certified pre owned, you should have been offered three years.

Well, dealer I bought it through was CARMAX.... original New Jersey MB dealer sold car at auction after using it for 8K miles. Build Sheet shows Car came with Navigation permanently installed.

Anyway, got the USB adapter, and hour+ later, it updated the original New Jersey area, and my new area in Florida, so all good.

My dealer only gave me 1 month for a 2021 model. Bummer. They set it up more than 1 month after purchase after constant bugging.

Do not buy your vehicle from South Bay Mercedes in Torrance.
