Which factory builds GLC 43?
I read a press release a while back that said MB had contracted with a manufacturing company in Finland to build the GLC models. Can anyone confirm that? Also, if true, is there a way to determine which factory is building your car at the time the order is placed? I just placed an order for a 2019 GLC 43 and am curious. Certainly do not want the build quality to be any less than if the car were built in Germany.

My 2018 GLC 43 is built in Finland. Purchased in Nov 2017. Not sure if quality is any less than if it was built in Germany since the only issue I’ve had was wind noise which had been fixed with the acoustic glass replacement

Was the wind noise coming from glass weatherstripping not being airtight? Or was noise actually coming through the glass? How did you convince them to install glass that is not available to order in the US?

OK. On the manufacturing plant: VIN codes identifiers are F for Bremen and V for Valmet(Finland). I test drove a GLC43 a few days ago that was made in Bremen. I guess some are also made in Finland. As long as MB is consistent with their production quality requirements, it should be equal. I wonder how they decide which plant to use and when?

Yes, it sounded like the driver’s side upper right wasn’t airtight but the tech that I did the drive with when I bought it in said the cause was the design of the side mirrors and that it is normal. Even had me drive with the mirrors folded in to prove his point (noise did get louder). He said they ALL sound like that and it is what it is. I called BS saying my 2004 Honda has less wind noise. I mentioned to my service advisor that I read somewhere that there might be a service bulletin out for the 2 front side windows to be replaced with acoustic glass. He talked it over with the shop foreman and they got it done. Now I only hear “normal all around” wind noise starting around 75mph instead of it starting around 40mph at the window. Hope this helps.

If a service bulletin was issued , they may have fix the issue since .
I didn't notice any wind noise when I test drove the car but when I take delivery in September , I will pay more attention !
Anyone with wind noise coming from the front window ?

Build date 08/2017. The thing with wind noise is people tend to have different tolerance levels. It didn’t bother my wife but it drove me crazy. Also something interesting, when I brought my car in there were two glc 43 and two glc 63 on the lot. Only one of the glc 63 had the acoustic glass and it wasn’t a separate line item on the sticker. Go figure.
They can not be thicker , right ? different color may be ?

It’s labeled acoustic and the edging is different. Don’t know if the thickness is any different. Also, do a search for “acoustic glass” and you should find photos of the difference in addition to some good info

If you roll the window down, you will see it's actually 2 pieces of thin glass sandwiched together. If it's one piece of glass, it's not the acoustic glass. Overall thickness is basically the same, or you'd have to change the window seals, which we don't, the seals are the same for either type of glass panel.
I haven't seen a GLC need the retrofit but we do them on the 205 C class cars quite a bit.
