RUMOR: GLC43 Dead For 2020 MY?!?

Hi guys,

Just ran across this article in Motor 1 claiming the GLC 43 might be dead for the 2020 MY. See Below:

https://www.motor1.com/news/353644/m...g-glc-43-dead/

I was wondering what was going on when it didn't debut in NY as there has been no mention of it at all, and I suspected that there might be a switch to a GLC 53 instead. However, given that there has been zero word anywhere on the internet about this trim in a long time, I'm not sure that's true at this point.

It would be weird if they cut the model and leave such a huge gap between the 300 and 63, with nothing to take on the Porsche Macan GTS or the BMW X3 M40i or Audi SQ5. I'm wondering if they're still working on fitting an Inline 6 into it and readying a GLC 53 to debut at the same time as the facelifted Porsche Macan GTS.

What do you guys think?

I wonder if they would just drop the regular 6 cylinder in it in place of the GLC43?

GLC 43
They've just started advertising the old version too with a new video ad on youtube (probably equipped with MBUX)

Also lots of rumors the Macan GTS will not be returning in the facelifted Macan.

Good. We don’t need these faux AMGs. You either get the real deal or you don’t care and get the 300.

One thing that's interesting to see is that the new M139 4-cylinder is being touted as a one-man one-engine thing again... there is even a 20-minute YouTube video demonstrating this. Let's hope that AMG is dumping the anonymous V6s and returning to hand-build 4s, 8s, and 12s for all their cars. Personally I'll only drive V8s but I'll gladly welcome any 1M1E AMG as a true AMG.

No more V12 engines from MBZ. 2019 is last year I believe.

Most likely 53 AMGs replacing all 43AMG . No point in having two different 6cyl engines, and 53 is cheaper to produce from a manufacturing standpoint and is a much better engine overall.

How exactly is the 53 going to be cheaper to produce?
It's a mild hybid setup. All of the new I6 motors come paired with an electric motor. It may prove to be better, if the execution of the mild hybrid system pans out, but it will definitely not be cheaper to manufacture.

I agree that the M276 motor is likely on it's way out the door. Most of us expected as much when the new I6 debuted in the S class. It has trickled down to the E and GLE. I would not be surprised to see it in the C and GLC class as early as 2021. I also would not be surprised if North America got it in the GLC before the C since sedans are dying faster here than in the rest of the world.

They confirmed it on the PL. V12s will be Maybach only going forward. Which makes sense in a way. You can rip just as much power from a V8 as you can from a V12. What you can't get from an V8 is the extra smoothness that the V12 provides.

Are all 6400 of your posts as awesome and intelligent as this?
Personally I could care less if my 43 was labelled an AMG or a 450. That said, when I bought it in 2017, there was no 63 version. Guess I should have bought a 300 instead? Makes a lot of sense.

Actually the GLC 43 may not be dead according to this video (minute 4:20)... disclaimer: not sure how accurate it is.

I saw that too, which is good. It would not make sense for them to kill it off.

My question though is whether it'll still be a GLC 43 or whether they're going to make it a GLC 53. We know Mercedes intends to electrify its lineup and the GLC already got the 53 treatment with the Panamericana grille. It would make more sense to make the same change for the GLC series.

This is straight from the press ride & drive, so I’d say it’s pretty accurate aside from the assumption that it’ll be the sub-63. However it sure would make a lot of sense.

Please see posts #16 and #18. There’s another AMG GLC to be debuted this year.

trust me I watched that video 10 times now, catching every word I mean there is no official announcement from MB, or even a tiny hint or a promise. Not sure we can trust a blogger on youtube.

I will hope it will come out, because we put a deposit on it already

This link below gives some hope - if you translate that page from German, they mention new grill for 2020 GLC 43

Since it's still badged a 43 and not a 53, do you guys think we can rule out the mild hybrid inline 6?

If so, I wonder why they didn't debut it at the NY auto show since there would be nothing notable about separating the debut.
