Sorry if I offended anyone. I don’t think SUV’s are attractive vehicles, including my new 2018. I always tell my husband, It’s a good thing everyone has such different tastes in vehicles, otherwise life would be boring https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...145640f9b9.jpg |
[QUOTE=GregW / Oregon;7614001]If you really have a '66 Goat, that's a classic. I had a '69 Camaro when in was new. SUVs need to be judged against their peers, not against sports cars or other types of vehicles. I drive a BMW M4 every day, but the GLE as my wife's car suits her and gives us the most variety. Of course when you come on here with your 3rd post putting the subject of the thread down everyone will think you are a troll. Do you really think the new GLE is ugly compared to the W166 ML? That pic of the blue one looks pretty sweet to me. That’s funny I bought the other Muscle car a 1968 Mustang 428. It was crazy fast after a few mods but the tires, suspension and brakes were so inadequate that it was truly an “accident waiting to happen”. After a few close call’s, I sold it in 1969 to a farmer and he wrecked it putting he and his wife in the hospital. They were lucky to be alive after rolling several times.Cheap gas and lots of power those were the days! |
While we're walking down memory lane, in 1967 I went with my older brother to the local Ford dealership when he bought a 67 Mustang S-code 390 Fastback. It was $4,400 and our dad nearly disowned him for spending so much for a car. :)
He actually wanted to buy a 427 Cobra but none were available, only 289 models remained so he went with the Mustang. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...d4bcd06e46.jpg |
2nd row seats

I hate to raise this issue again but the presenter in this review states unequivocally that the seating position in the V167 is lower than the W166. She states that she is 5'4" and although space is not an issue I am officially concerned by the seating position and angle. The 2nd row headrests are visibly lower than those in the front seat. Clearly anyone in the backseat at a minimum will be looking up at the front seat occupants.

The UK Configurator is now available. I thought our restrictions on options here in the US were cumbersome, check out their restrictions:

Geez - only as 7-seater. Pretty limited. Configurator shows left hand steering.

Autoweek first drive review
Very complimentary, particularly of E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL.
"It’s hard to get excited about a midsize luxury SUV. But when one does it almost perfectly, like Mercedes has, it is notable. The curve control is truly impressive; the autonomous stuff is nearly there and the augmented reality, though a little gimmicky, can help in a situation when there are three lefts to take, one of which is right." Night Package - Black accented wheels
Anyone have experience with these wheels?
I'm wondering if the accenting on the wheel becomes compromised over time due to brake dust pitting and wearing away the paint. |

I have no experience with these in particular, but I don’t think black finish is more susceptible than silver. Scratches should be easier to touch up on black. Just MO. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...f2cdf3716c.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...3f36415b93.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...204f81f9fb.jpg |
Just finished watching this German 99 minute review of the new GLE. The guy is a Mercedes fan and he said that the price tag with Burmeister sound, eABC shocks, massaging seats and so on could be over 100K which seems crazy but the ride comfort, noise level, safety and so on is on S Class level. He loved the new I6 engine, MBUX system with augmented reality navigation, oversized head up display, seat comfort adjustable via touch display and one of the safety features includes a warning when you open the door and have traffic coming up behind you. His only issue is the design from the outside which I totally agree on. Instead of making it smooth like a jelly fish and adding plastic to the fenders and spoilers, they should have left some of the character the current GLE has and I still can't get over the fake air vent, center console handles and display sticking out as it does :-/ |

Looking into the night package since I'm not sure of what to think about the extra chrome-looking surround on the rear diffuser (exhaust cutouts) of the AMG-line vehicles. My car was ordered in black. The Night package eliminates that bright work but of course most of the rest of the bright work as well.

IMO you need a little bright work. This is personal aesthetics and for one, I would never own a black car again unless I had a detailer on staff (especially in a Philly Winter)! |

Agreed.....One Black vehicle was enough for us although when/if clean they are beautiful! We must be in the minority though because it seems to me that there is a very high percentage of Black German vehicles ordered for inventory by all 3. GM, Ford, etc. seem more diverse with colors. I asked once and was told it’s a safe color along with white to a lesser extent. designo Diamond White is my favorite Mercedes-Benz color but Polar White is also a good choice. |
I've come to like white vehicles with black trim including wheels. It's in fashion at the moment, and may not age well...I guess I'll have to see. But, I like the look of it, and it's way more practical than a black car. Though, I agree with the sentiment that nothing looks better than a freshly detailed black vehicle!

That is not listed in the DOG but interesting to see that it was available to order nonetheless, I wonder what else is available that is not in the DOG. I would be interested in adding this option also and trying to assess their safety for young children (6 &10 currently). |

I've owned a number of different car-colors and white is easily the best color for hiding light road dirt. Black is of course the worse. As you said, black is beautiful when it's clean but oh boy, they are a lot of work.
