Well, it starts as a personal need. Since the first ML in 1997 I have always pre-ordered my cars (Mercedes & BMW) a year+/- in advance and followed every scrap of information up to release and beyond. I typically have the first of each model customer-ordered at my dealerships. It's a pleasure to share what I find and receive what others find, as well. Since I retired last year I have more time than most to do this. My only wish is that there was more participation here. I tried to get something going over on BenzWorld, but dead there.

The Audi Forums are much more active and there are a larger number of participants for some reason. Maybe a younger group to some extent but plenty of Seniors. They are a more performance & mod oriented group also. I see some Mercedes threads are more active than others but it still seems that there is a significant difference.

Same on the BMW M forums. Certainly these types of cars develop more passion and enthusiasm, but I can get passionate about a mid-size SUV as well!

I'm not sure if that is H18 - does not look grey like the pic in the DOG, and it's certainly not H34.

Greg,

I did some sleuthing and I concur that the pic I posted is indeed not H18 high gloss linden but in fact H34 designo high gloss brown flowing lines linden. It appears that when you select H34, the tray covering the cupholders does not have the same line pattern as on the primary dash piece. Here are the pics that I found from that series, see pics #143 to #153:

Ron,

Would you mind revisiting what info you have on the availability of the natural grain brown walnut? I find myself scrambling now on interior trim selection.

It's certainly available and inexpensive - that's what Joe has in his pics above.

It was not available on the date I placed my order, November 24. I assume that they are temporarily out but have it down to request again. The Brown interior is probably getting a lot of requests for the Brown Walnut. All you can do is ask your dealer when you order.

Note: The 21" wheels haven't been loading on that site for some time. His first pic I captured from a San Antonio video.

Just got a call from the dealer that Distribution called and said I cannot order the AMG Line interior with the Driver Assistance Package PLUS. It says this in the DOG but I missed it. I'm not willing to give up Distronic so unfortunately no AMG interior for me. I'm back to the Espresso Brown leather. I'll be updating my pics soon.

My dealer is telling me NetStar (the ordering system dealers use to place an order) is not yet fully debugged for the 2020 GLE builds. Some requirements/restrictions outlined in the DOG (and some not yet covered by the initial DOG) are not enforced by NetStar. He has been working with the IT department to overcome some of the bugs and crashed but beware of this possibility if and when you place an order. MB is working to resolve them but production is ramping up for the GLE so they are manually assisting my dealer by inputting the builds orders on their side, bypassing NetStar.

Are you still getting the Brown Walnut trim? I assume that is still OK with your order. I'm hoping that I can get mine ordered with it even though it wasn't available when I ordered.

Hi Ron, my dealer did not mention a problem selecting the natural walnut trim.

I don't know Canadian regulations, but almost certainly not. It's what's termed a "mild hybrid." The 48 v. motor/alternator likely helps mileage slightly, and certainly improves driveability and acceleration, but the motor & battery pack are small so the vehicle cannot travel on electric power alone.

There is talk of a plug-in hybrid model but it could a year or two away. Mercedes hasn't given any specifics on it yet.

Ended up changing my interior trim to metal weave. I think it looks sharp with the all black leather interior and night package exterior. Last few have had various wood trims so time for a change.

The metal weave does look good in the pics and should look great with the black leather.

We have it in our Audi but they call it Carbon Fiber. It does look great with black and my corrent selection for the GLE since Walnut wasn’t available. It should also look good with the brown grey interior but didn’t want both cars the same. I’m hoping that the Walnut becomes available again soon but won’t be disappointed with the Metal Weave.

I have real carbon fiber in my M4 - It's hard to tell from the photos what Metal Weave is really like. Since it's called "metal," is it just a print on a metal base?
