2024 Mercedes GLE 63 S..... 2018 Audi SQ5
Hard to tell for certain but at least 2 reviewers called it Carbon Fiber and it looks exactly the same in the pictures as our Audi. Maybe it’s trademarked so they can’t use the name or maybe it’s a different material. For the price it’s not a cheap imitation!
The stuff in my M4 looks a little more like what I expect of carbon fiber. The Metal Weave appears more two-dimensional.
I’m no expert but I think the base material (Mat?) can vary giving different looks.

My wife and I drove to the King of Prussia mall today to visit the temporary Mercedes show room. I signed up for and received by email the certificate for $1000 off my next purchase. While I was there they took me to a back room to show me the new A class and allowed me to sit in it and play with MBUX. It is very impressive in person. The touch screen worked flawlessly but I did find the touchpad to be a little sensitive. While using the touchpad I accidentally clicked the pad several times which is the same as clicking a regular touchpad. There may be a sensitivity adjustment in the system but I don’t know for sure. They also allowed me to experiment with using CarPlay wirelessly but the system did not seem to recognize my phone even when it was on the Qi charging pad. They called a technical support person who said they thought all the new NBUX systems going out in cars from here on out would support it but still not definitive. As for the new A class, it is a very impressive car. It felt roomier than the current C class. I would think Mercedes will have to re-designed the C class and make it larger to compete. Oh, one last thing, they said they will only be at the KOP mall until the end of this month and then they are heading west and would eventually be on the West Coast. She did not mention which cities but they are heading that way after December.
You're welcome. I hope we get the US configurator soon.
I'm still thinking about the MBUX system in the A class I saw at KOP mall today. It was so very nice. Very high quality screens (though only 10" screens in the A class). The center console touch pad is very well designed and felt extremely solid. There was no internet so I could only test a few voice commands but the system is quite responsive to "Hey Mercedes". I can't wait to get my hands on my new GLE. I'm sure many on this forum feel exactly the same.

Those that have ordered in the US have production dates - mine is first 10 days of February. Not sure if MB will hold the cars until March. We have most pricing but not all.

I have real carbon fiber in my S4 and did not think the metal weave i saw online looked anything like it. I impression was that MB was trying to imitate the carbon fiber look.

While the metal weave trim option may looks similar to carbon fiber, it definitely is not. But MB may be planning to offer a carbon fiber trim option in the AMG 53 and AMG 63 variants.

I've been watching this thread for a couple of months now. Thanks to you guys for all the info. I just cannot believe the US configurator is not up yet; like you guys, I check it every day. Seems to me if they've changed over the tooling and production, they should let you build the new one online. That's what BMW did with the X5. I get the argument that maybe there're a lot of 2019s out there that they want to move, but then MBUSA tweets/Instagrams about the new one? WTH??
Anyway, haven't ordered one yet but mine will be a 450, Iridium Silver with AMG and Night exterior packages. 21-inch wheels. Undecided on interior. I will get most -- not all -- of the tech. I will get E-ABC. To me, all that stuff is the reason a 450 beats out an X5-50i, which is significantly quicker (I try not to care, but that kind of effortless acceleration is just so intoxicating). I will be trying to keep mine in the low- to mid-$80s.
W/r/t the buy vs lease comments above, I'm sort of in the business a little bit and could argue either side, but the one point I didn't see that I would add is the diminished value risk you avoid with leasing. If you have an accident, even a minor parking lot incident that you repair properly but through insurance, it WILL get picked up by Carfax. Boop! Instant 20% reduction on resale or trade-in value. Lease it and that's the bank's problem. Buy it and it's yours. I'm a good and careful driver, but in NJ where I live a lot of people aren't and the odds of some type of incident are pretty high.
Cheers

Hi Ron, I should have been clearer, I was at the KOP mall yesterday talking to the staff about the upcoming GLE and they said there is no carbon fiber trim option available for the 2020 GLE and the metal weave is a painted metal made to look similar to carbon fiber for far less cost. I ask if carbon fiber would available in the 53 or 63 but they didn't know.

I updated my spreadsheet to reflect the order and descriptions displayed in Netstar5 (they emailed me screenshots of my order). Note that several of the descriptions are different than those in the DOG.
