I’m not sure orders during release of a redesign work exactly that same way. The allocation numbers yes but the ability to spec all initial allocation maybe not. My SA thought that some of the initial allocation would come from a pre-built pool. For MB to deliver and release a huge number of GLE’s simultaneously across the US they would need to stockpile them. My info is now almost 2 months old now so maybe something changed.

The new CLS 53 is $8.2k more than the CLS 450 so maybe the gap between GLE 450 and 53 won't be as much as the current GLE 43 and 400.
When is Mercedes expecting to release the 53 version of the GLE?

I believe the Surround View 360-degree cameras is it.

You read that right. The Head-Up Display is the main add. The Interior Assistant is what recognizes driver vs. passenger inputs, or can turn on the light when you reach into the passenger seat for something, for instance. I love the HU display in my BMW is the main reason I'm getting it.

MBUX Interior Assistant

I would say the MB-Tex dash (or leather if you prefer) is a worthwhile upgrade regardless of whether you get this.
Thanks for the response. I am excited. This will be my first Mercedes vehicle. I am in the Washington DC area.

I agree! When I was shopping the 2018 GLE against the AMG 43 model there was about $8k to $9k difference after comparing similar equipped vehicles. The significant difference were body style, engine, brakes and wheel choices. I even asked the SA to point out anything I was overlooking. Factoring in wheels and the AMG body it came to at $8-9k for the engine and larger brakes....not what I would consider a good deal! Maybe we overlooked some features and the 2020 is yet unknown. Wouldn’t be surprised to see a loaded GLE53 at 6 figures.

The only info I could find stated that the Coupe would be next followed by the 53. Neither have been officially announced but maybe something will come out of the N. American Auto show in a few weeks. I decided the 53 would be around the 4th Q of 19 so ordered a GLE450.

If you go to the prelim DOG that Greg posted earlier there are some details for the new packages showing individual items included. Then on some if you Google the description there is often more detailed info or a YouTube video. If MB would get the configurator going it would answer a lot of questions. Maybe any day now, ha ha!
Edit-Like you this is my first Mercedes and so we aren’t familiar with some of the features and function. I did a lot of YouTube.

I was speaking about orders available for custom configuration. You are correct that each dealer will probably also receive a quantity of pre-configured "launch" or "Edition 1" cars which are typically fairly highly optioned and may have a unique feature to distinguish them. Here is for the 2019 CLS:

In addition to Ron's suggestion, the German site has a "Konfigurator" up which is very good. Of course there almost everything is an option, but you can do different configurations and see 360-degree exterior views and multiple interior views. At least with Google Chrome it will translate it for you.

2020 GLE450 4Matic AMG-Line
My dealer just called me to book a meeting to discuss replacing our GLE.
I told him I was holding off because my lease only comes up in June, and I wanted to ensure there would be no configuration issues on Netstar once we place our order. I plugged our Forum here, as a source of my info, as well as the .de, .be, and .lu configurators. I know he has no idea about actual Canadian pricing on features as I told him I would love to have E-ABC, but it was too pricy an option. He thought it would be around $4-5,000 CAD, similar to the Intelligent Active Drive on other models, to which I said it should be much higher; $8,5K USD or even €12,5K! So I estimate a good $10K CAD which is above my budget.

I asked him if the 2020 GLE was going to be at the Montreal Auto Show in two weeks. He wasn't sure, said he would get back to me on Friday or Monday. He did offer free tickets to the car show though without me asking for them. SCORE!

I'm with you. I was ready to put an order for the GLE 450 but I heard the CLS 53 exhaust note the other day and it sounds good, my wife even liked it so it was easier to convince her to wait for the 53. I just hope it doesn't take too long to be available, we are overdue to replace our vehicle.
Also, I think the GLE 53 will hold the value better through the years, I hope I'm not wrong.

For my situation, my wife was driving GLE43 and it got hit by a Tacoma. Its a write off, I really want to wait for 53 but I don’t think I can wait for that long. Going with Mercedes again because the safety as you guys can see it save my wife’s life.

I'm essentailly in the same boat..need to replace our Q7 and will be wifes vehicle but she'd go for the 53...I drove the E53 cab and it was a rocket and sounded very nice. I don't think the GLE 53 will be here before Q4 and by then there most likely will be better deals on the 450's being out months before. The deal breaker for me is the wheels, gotta have the AMG ones the Euro 450 has been shown with (which should be on the 53)...IF they happen to make them availble for the US AMG line 450 we'd go that route in a heartbeat.

That's ugly - was it a head on? Was she injured at all?

Ought to buy the wheels off that for Winters.

Properly designed vehicles give their life to save the occupants. You can see how it absorbed the impact while keeping (your wife) and the passenger compartment intact.

Would be great if they become available in the order banks, but wheels can always be changed later. Get the 21s which would be highly marketable and look for a Euro source for the 22s or after the 53 comes out look for take-offs.

I was reading the description of the AMG Exterior Line package and it says:
  •  Functional sport exhaust (only for GLE 450 4MATIC)
Is it possible AMG Exterior doesn't have fake exhausts?

Make sure to get her injuries documented and seek settlement if reasonable. My wife still has neck issues 23 years after we were T-boned.

+1
My wife's parents were t-boned by a city bus and were never the same...

FYI In the event you are getting or considering: - Epidural Steroid (Cortisone) Injections are NOT FDA approved for use in the epidural space...the FDA fell one or so votes short from banning them in 2014, and they have been banned in other countries. The most common corticosteroid used DepoMedrol or its generic equivalents and other corticosteroids (see below) are FDA approved for intramuscular use and joints etc., but NOT for epidural administration. These epidural steroid injections are all being used off-label by US physicians and are a significant source of revenue...when they go wrong, and they do, the complications can be devastating (adhesive arachnoiditis for one..google it) and because they are not FDA approved, the physicians are not required to report the complications, hence the low/rare reported complications rates. There is also research showing how these are harmful to the cartiliedge.

I am not a physician, but someone who went through holy hell for 6 years after receiving these and was almost paralyzed (I had very minor lower back pain and it turned out I never needed the injections in the first place). By the grace of The Good Lord, I received emergency treatment to counter act the negative affects from becoming chronic, but sadly little know of it.. Do your research, seek out many qualified medical opinions, and make up your own mind...wish I knew what I know now before I went for mine, as if I had known then they were not FDA approved I would have run out of the doctor's office and never looked back.

The FDA Warning:1

Facts, information for patients, information for health care professionals

Facts:
  • Injectable corticosteroids include methylprednisolone, hydrocortisone, triamcinolone, betamethasone, and dexamethasone.
  • Corticosteroids are not approved by the FDA for injection into the epidural space. Information for Patients:
  • Rare but serious problems have occurred after injection of corticosteroids into the epidural space of the spine to treat neck and back pain and radiating pain in the arms and legs. These serious problems include loss of vision, stroke, paralysis, and death.
  • The effectiveness and safety of injection of corticosteroids into the epidural space of the spine have not been established, and the FDA has not approved corticosteroids for this use.
  • Discuss the risks and benefits of ESI with your health care professional along with the benefits and risks associated with other possible treatments.
  • Seek emergency medical attention if you experience any unusual symptoms after receiving ESI, such as loss of vision or vision changes, tingling in your arms or legs, weakness or numbness of your face, arm, or leg on one or both sides of the body, dizziness, severe headache, or seizure.
  • Report any side effects following ESI to the FDA
I wish your wife and the other gentleman's (tery) wife better days ahead...God's speed.

As I said, "Not a direct competitor...", but it's still good to see what the mainstream is putting out as points of reference.
