No more buyer's remorse: if you forgot to check the boxes for the options you wanted on your new Mercedes, it's never too late.
We’ve become accustomed to DLC (downloadable content) in our video games, as well as with software updates for the various pieces of tech we use every day. When you think about how much tech is packed into your car, it seems like it was only a matter of time before a manufacturer applied that concept to the cars it sells.

Naturally, it’s Mercedes-Benz, and the company is aiming to eliminate, or at least partially eliminate, the buyer’s remorse commonly associated with failing to order the right equipment with your new car.
Buyers of the new A-Class, B-Class, and GLE models will be able to purchase digital radio, navigation, and smartphone integration upgrades for their cars, right from the screen in the dashboard.

Owners of these cars will simply need a data connection and a Mercedes me account to be able to purchase these optional extras from the Mercedes me Store, also known as MBUX. In just a few clicks, they’ll be able to download and use the features they forgot to order, without visiting a dealership.

64 Photos

According to Mercedes-Benz’s press release, the automaker expects it to improve resale value as well, since future owners will be able to take advantage of this feature as these cars move to their second owners and beyond.

In fact, many European owners will have to make use of this on-demand feature whether they want to or not. Starting next year, all new cars sold in the EU will be required to have digital radio capability. Owners of 2019 models not so equipped will likely add the feature to make their cars easier to sell when the time comes.

While this is a minor step forward, there’s (obviously) still no easy hardware upgrades. That means that we’re likely to hear the moans of “I could’ve had a V8!” long into the future.

As I posted above in #2044 MBUSA won't confirm status. We can only hope the process is complete.

2018 vs 2020

The vents on top of the hood of my 2018 are missing on the 2020. And just when I had decided I like them.... Oh well.

The Korean brands have been on a steep climb. The other Genesis models get very good reviews. I doubt many Mercedes customers are cross-shopping them, but competition is always good.

A good friend leased a 2018 Genesis G80 and it is a very fine automobile for the money. They remind me of when Lexus entered the luxury market in the early 90's.

Genesis appears to be doing it right by going slow. Both models in production have been first in Quality the past 2 years. I looked at one casually at the Fair last summer and it was very nice, luxurious. I wonder why they are trying to break into a market with relatively low volumn and several well established Brands. Seems to me to be a tough uphill battle! Something about a Hyundai with the Genisis brand is a turn off to me.

We're close!

For those of us with 1st decade February production slots, that's just a week away! The lack of any new info or updates the last month has made the waiting harder. I found these production status codes online; it's an old list, so not sure if it's still accurate.
___________________________________
NetStar Production Codes
These are order status codes tracked my Mercedes-Benz. These will be of particular interest to those placing special orders for their cars, as these will be at least some of the stages that your order goes through on it's way to your dealership, and ultimately to your driveway.
A4 FINAL SUPPLIER ORDER/SCHEDULED NOT PRODUCED
B0 19 DAYS TO PRODUCTION
B1 13 DAYS TO PRODUCTION
B3 NO CHANGES POSSIBLE
B4 2 DAYS TO COMPLETION
B5 PRODUCTION COMPLETE
B7 AT PORT/READY TO BE SHIPPED
B8 ASSIGNED TO SHIP
C1 SHIP DEPARTED
C2 SHIP NOTIFICATION/ON WQTER
CS SUMITTED TO CUSTOMS
C3 CLEARED CUSTOMS
C4 AT PORT
D1 VPC RECEIVED
D2 SURVEYED AT VPC
D3 POTENTIAL DELAY
D4 READY TO DELIVER
D5 RELEASED TO CARRIER
D9 WHOLESALE/CONSIGNMENT PENDING
F1 WHOLESALED AND INVOICED

RETAILCars are built by Mercedes "decades" -- 10-day scheduling periods. This notation is in NetStar. For example, if your decade is 10/03, that would mean you car would be scheduled for production in the 3rd 10 day period of October.

At least overseas, buyers can track their German-produced order online, but this doesn't appear available in the US yet: https://media.daimler.com/marsMediaS...l?oid=29178694

So, I just confirmed with my salesperson that I'm still February decade 1, showing B3 status, but completion date is showing as 2/27. So I'm guessing I will not receive here on the West coast until late March/early April.

FYI, after reading Greg's last post I emailed my dealer to request the specific decade and status for my order. He replied that my order shows a Projected Production Date of 2/28/19 rather than an assigned decade. The status is B3 - IN PRODUCTION.

Placed mine 11/7, the day orders opened, so that’s about right.

Just guessing but at this point the dates may be pessimistic and not updated. My last two orders (from other mfcts) were slow to update all the way through production and shipping. MB may be different but they haven’t been very speedy with the DOG. It’s not a consumer tool and may not be a high priority like tracking for shipped items from Amazon.
IMO that if Greg’s actually starts the build in early Feb it will be shipped within 1-2 weeks. Shipping the longer distance to Oregon or like mine to Idaho may result in a longer delivery date but about 5 weeks max would seem reasonable. There is a financial incentive to shorten these timelines. My Audi came from Houston by an enclosed truck less than 4 weeks after being released for shipping. Lesser models that came in open shipping arrived a week sooner. Anything over 45 days after the production date would seem inefficient to me.
Production today is mostly assembly so vehicles go through the factory quickly. I’m expecting my March, decade 1 build by mid April or sooner but I won’t be disappointed if it’s late. The dealer is going to be conservative with dates.

Make sure your dealer marked it as a sold unit...that helps move things up a bit

It surprised me that with decade 1 production it was not shown to be complete until the 27th of the month. I’m guessing the run through the line can only be a few days at max. There’s VPC for accessories after but that still seems long.

Bet you will be out cruising while mines In production...unless they hold them for the official release to dealers. I’m surprised that dealers don’t have that date yet or if they do it’s not being leaked. Maybe it’s March 1

If you look at the image I posted of mine it shows both a decade and a "Production date" - yours is probably the same. I'm not sure B3 is actually "in production." I think it's the last step before production where the order is locked down and all the parts are scheduled to be in stock.

That's correct. B3 means no changes can be made to the order.

I emailed my dealer again about the "B3 - In Production" status he sent me a few days ago and he said it is "B3 - No Changes", he made a mistake in the email. Sorry guys.

But makes sense if the car is not to done until 2/28. It would never be in production all that time. As Greg mentions above, they likely are "In Production" only a few days until built.
