Just got off the phone with the dealer and the estimated production date was moved from March 24 to March 14. So if nothing changes, our GLE will be built in three weeks. He said they'll issue a VIN when it goes into production.

Hi Ron -- Today I did ask my guy about the NetStar code: B4 = in production. There have been problems with the NetStar ordering system adding/deleting items from the order spontaneously, especially with a new model. Hard to know ... hardware supply issue, coding error ... anybody's guess, but no hard answer.

Just in case it comes up - there have been various "issues" that have come up on the Dealer Demo units that have been delivered.
Such issues as misreading Fuel Gauges, misc CEL's regarding infotianment system, CEL throttle issues - and the list goes on.
The V167 Service Manual is not uploaded into the MB system yet - so dealers are to document each issue and upload to MB on a case-by-case.
I consider the dealer demo units to be "shakedown stuff" and not full production - my best guess anyway

Thanks that makes sense since a lot of 350’s few 450’s to the dealer. From an earlier post it seems like a bigger issue was waiting on EPA certification that maybe should have been done last year and likely was held up later by the shutdown. Also a Redesign with a lot of new parts so let’s hope they have everything else figured out.

The Demo's I have seen are production dates between 12/15/2018 and 1/20/2019 - so for me I sincerely believe these "Demo Problems" are pre-production units.
When this all shakes out down the road - I would expect these Demo units will be released for retail sale down the road - AFTER any issues on a particular rig have been verified as repaired.

Afternoon I just returned from my local dealer in Delaware where I drove a GLE 350. It was not highly optioned but did have the AMG line exterior treatment which is especially good looking. My first impression was very positive - I did not get to spend much time with the car as they had several potential customers waiting in line to drive/check out the car. I was surprised to find that the tires were Cooper tires - I expected Michelin or Pirelli. There is much more room in the back seats then I expected - close to that in my current S Class. Seats are very comfortable in both the front and back. Even with the smaller engine the car seemed well powered and nimble. It had the standard steel springs but handled well, firm and turn in was precise. It was a short drive but I was impressed with the overall experience. Makes me really look forward to getting the 450. Fit and finish was good to great as I expected and the electronic bells and whistles are really something. It will take a month or more to learn the ins and outs of the car when mine arrives - now scheduled for mid March. I may go back again next week to spend more time with the car or if the get a 450 in the next shipment. I am impressed and the waiting is getting more difficult.

Haha yep I saw and noticed that immediately and like everyone was saying its pre-production car for european market. They wont use cooper tires in USA. Almost all the views have the GLE450 or GLE350 tires with 20 inch rims and Michelin tires which is good to know.

Come to think of it, I’ve had more issues with my established 2016 GLE, than with the Focus. My first complaint to my dealer, I remember telling them that I wasn’t impressed with how true the motto was, “The best or nothing”, as though it wasn’t the best I was getting, rather it was nothing. Worse for their ego, I told them I was getting better service from Ford’s dealership than from them. It motivated them to really step up from that point on (after 6 months of ownership).

"Cooper Tires" - there is a whole mishmash of tires that have been used on these "pre-production" demo units.
Production units must be delivered with "MOE" (Mercedes Original Equipment") tires... whatever these Demo units have for rubber... don't take it seriously..
