There was some earlier discussion about Run Flat Tires. I just saw info about a Lexus recall that adds another feature that I was unaware of....proper mounting. Easy fix, just buy 4 new expensive tires.
”Run-flat tires suck because they make your car ride poorly and they're both heavy and expensive, but you know what's even worse? Having run-flat tires improperly installed on your wheels. Unfortunately, that's precisely what some 6,300 2018 Lexus LS 500 and LS 500h owners are dealing with now, according to Wednesday's recall notice from Lexus' parent company, Toyota.
The recall states that because the tires were improperly fitted to the vehicle's wheels at the factory, a crack could develop in the run-flat tire's reinforced sidewall, which can lead to the separation of parts of the tire's tread layer. Things could get kind of crashy from there.
Thankfully, not only is this a relatively small recall, but the fix is easy and involves fitting four brand-new tires to the vehicle. This recall repair will be done without cost to the vehicle's owner.”

Any thoughts on this package? I am wondering, since I'm redoing my order, if its just overkill since a lot of safety
tech is included (blind spot, etc..). I have added amg exterior, so need to economize somewhere (yeah, I know, economizing would be keeping the 2018 gle I have, sigh...).

wheels
Well, the decision is made then, no driver assistance package for me, and saving money to boot.
Now if I can only make a final on the wheels, I think I'm done adjusting the order. hopefully. before I drive the dealer crazy. er.

I ordered the R77 option, of course the most expensive stand alone wheel option. I have the RWB on my current GLC43, and cleaning between the spokes is a mother, even with my wand brushes. Once I saw the R77 in person, I was hooked, tho. I really liked them, and they were the right choice for me to try to spiff up the non-amg exterior I had to have 'cause of the Burmester 3D. I added the rear roof spoiler too, to try to overcompensate for the lack of the amg exterior package. MB and their odd mutually exclusive packages/trim/wheel combos drive me nuts.

CHeck out post #2427. That is basically my build with the R77. Thanks again, JoeMa!

The downside to the R77 is all the room between spokes to see the weak-*** brake package of the non-amg exterior trim. Hopefully the E-ABC will have something, at least on front, that looks better than the crappy standard floating calipers, but I don't know that there is a final consensus on that quite yet. I'd like to cop some of the 6 piston Brembo's my E63 had and retrofit em. Yeah, right.

Have any dealers in the West received a 2020 yet? I assume they are in Cali but they still seem scarce. I had hoped to test drive one before I leave on a trip this weekend but almost 2 weeks and nothing.

There is definitely a problem at MBUSA when it comes to their website. Communication within the company between the product planners and web admin is broken. The GLE should have been up months ago. Every 2019 and 2020 model should be up and buildable at this point. There is no excuse for this. The GLE will be on dealers lots and in customer's garages before they put up the build your own. It's a disgrace. Porsche is LIGHT YEARS ahead on their timing of new vehicles and building them on their website.

i have Custom ordered every new vehicle but three for the past 40 years and this is the first time (that I can recall) that the Configurator wasn’t open online in a timely manner. Normally the Dealer system is up early for initial ordering of the dealers initial inventory and the Configurator a month or so later. Some issues always occur with a redesign where so many suppliers, parts and accessory packages are all new. Mercedes may not be anxious to start getting retail orders while they are still building Dealer inventory Worldwide and smooth factory production. Then there is already a backlog of retail orders evidenced by new orders with reported build dates 90+ days out. All will be forgotten when we get our new rides🤗

I had a similar headache with the ordering process for the GLC43. The 350 was already out, but the 43 was a pain. The dealer let me order twice because netstar kept fouling things up, and the 43 package wasn't added to the configurator until a few weeks before my car was delivered.

Agreed. One of my friend works as a software developer in MB, Atlanta and he said they have some production issues which haven't been resolved for weeks. So that gives us some perspective on how bad the website is maintained.
