Can Someone Explain the Locking Bolts to me
The GLE450 I bought has locking bolts. I'm a bit confused. Inside the glove box was a small box that came with the car. Inside were 4 bolts and what looked like a small tool. What are the 4 bolts for? Are the locking bolts not installed? Also the small tool that came does not fit the head of any of the bolts, way too big. All you tube videos only show how to beat the locking bolt system none shows how it works...thanks.

Let me clear this up:
1. the factory puts the small box in the glovebox - the VPC removes 1-lug bolt each wheel - and replaces it with a special bolt - and the "socket" that fits each special bolt is in that box
2. IMPORTANT - move that small box to your spare tire area - often there will be a square area in lower right corner for it - or find another secure area in the spare tire area to secure it
3. IMPORTANT - there is NO Mercedes VMI record of what type of locking bolts were put in your car - so if you lose that box - the ONLY way for a dealer to help is to have your MB towed to the dealership where they have a full sets of all the different masters - and literally they have to go thru the master ring to see what master/type locking bolt is on your MB
4. If you have a GLE where the lugs on each wheel ROUNDED EDGE DESIGN (or called ROSE DESIGN) - instead of sharp angles like a "normal" lug bolt - to a Wheel/Tire Shop those LOOK like locking lug bolts - but ACTUALLY REGULAR LUG WRENCH FITS ROUNDED ROSE LUGS PERFECTLY

Do the bolts in the box look like regular bolts? Take a look at the bolts that are on holding the wheels on right now. Does one of them look different from the rest and fits the key? Maybe the locking bolts were already put on each wheel.

I've never checked but does the emergency socket in the trunk accommodate this flower bolt then? If not, it seems like we should all pack a flower socket in our trunks.

I find a standard hex lug wrench does not fit "perfectly" and will ruin the "flower" head bolts over time as HotRodW concurs. Use the right tool. I use this: https://www.ultimategarage.com/shop/...oducts_id=8303

Some how one of my locking sockets got lost and I was never told. I ended up getting a complete new set on eBay for about $80. I had an indie do a oil change
since my dealer wanted to do a "b" service for $1200. The indie felt he should also rotate the tires. Not anything I asked for. I ended up also getting a set of standard
flower head bolts from eBay. They were free after I explained to the seller that he sent me the standard wheel bolts from the car he just traded in. Ha to the next
owner. Long story shortened - I check all my flower head bolts and threw away 6-7 of them since they were mangled.

FWIW, Traditional hex lug bolts are what's supplied with the Night Package and black wheels.
The flower heads come with silver bolts for the silver wheels.
