Can dealers change the wheels?
Hi. I recently joined as I think i want to get a 450 gle. I drove one in NYC over weekend, very nice.
If i find a car with 19 inch wheels, can the dealer swap in 20 inch ones?
What is the difference between 19" and 20 ", anyway.
thanks

The 20s will ride harsher and be more susceptible to tire damage especially blowouts because of the lawyers profile sidewalls, but they sure look nicer and will handle better. I doubt the dealer will swap the wheels because it'll screw up the warranty on both cars. They will probably order you a set of wheels and tires though, and that will cost a bunch, let them price it for while you're sitting down. And what do you do with the ones that came with the car?

The 20's fill the wheel well much better than the 19's - the overall height of the 20's is almost 2" more than the 19's and they have about 5% more circumference (this becomes very clear when you view vehicles with both options). The 20's are also essentially the same as the 21's in terms of height/circumference given their higher (50) aspect ratio vs the 21's which are 275/45 (F) and 315/40 (R).

If it is a new car the dealer cannot swap the tires out but for a used car they can. That is what we were told by a dealer

I've swapped wheels/tires before at a Ford dealer on a leased car. It can be done. However, make sure it gets written in your lease contract. I say that because I got billed for a set of stock wheels and tires upon my lease return. I went back to the dealer and asked them to retrieve the lease agreement and sure enough, the notes were still there and they were able to clear that amount owing.
Now, with a brand new model release, I would not be surprised if dealers are reluctant to make any swaps. Selling a set of rims + tires sounds more realistic.

Swapping wheels
Yeah, it seems dumb that a dealer can't swap standard option wheels between vehicles. Why should that affect anything?

Even if a standard wheel don't all wheels have a specific code listed on the full option list? If they swap wheels from car to car that second buyer is not getting the exact wheel for his car. The buyer might not like the swapped wheel just like the 1st buyer didn't like his wheels.

It all goes back to the VIN, the dealer reports the vehicle they actually sold as MB built it. There is the Marroney Window Sticker required on every vehicle. There are all kinds of legal Fed safety regs down the road such as recalls, like on wheels they think your car has. Now what you do after you/buy/lease/take delivery from the dealer is another story. The dealer can do the install of the new wheels but you're going to have to accept that you're going to pay. Or find another vehicle. The arguments dead, move on and get a car.

Aftermarket wheels not coming off another car on the lot. The person getting aftermarket wheels should also be getting the OEM wheels - if not that is a shady dealer.

for our old porsche macan S. the dealer swapped out another car's stock wheels and he just added the price difference to our lease. so It's been done before.

Sure anything is possible but majority dealers will not do this. We can't go to a MBZ dealer and say a guy on a forum had it done on his Macan so I want the same LOL
