Its been hot and humid and I went through a doozy of a mud "puddle" that sent water all over. It triggered the sensors and for a few minutes I had an alert that the car wouldn't be able to do the predictive breaking. Now my front camera still shows foggy (or muddy) for the bottom half of the view when I'm using the AI navigation. Any idea which camera that is so i can find it and clean it off?

The only front camera is directly under the HUGE Mercedes star in the upper grille.
If I don’t have the 360 degree view, what is the camera for under the large Mercedes emblem? The only front view I ever see is from the camera in the rear view mirror.

That's a good question. Do you have the Driver Assistance Package? It is not present on all cars; I have a base GLE 350 loaner now and it is just plastic grille in that location). This is what I think to be true:
There are (4) cameras for the 360-degree view: beneath the front star, in each side view mirror and at the rear
Augmented video (reality) for navigation uses a camera in windshield cluster
E-ABC uses a stereo multipurpose camera in the windshield cluster for Road Surface Scan
Active Distronic and Active Brake Assist use radar sensors behind the front bumper and/or the front star emblem as well as a camera
Parktronic and Active Parking Assist use six ultrasonic sensors on each of the bumpers
I don't pretend to know all the nuances, so if anyone wants to add to this feel free.

I have Active Brake Assist, Active Parking Assist and Augmented Video so I guess it’s one of those like you said. I wish I had 360-degree view and with my GLE appearing to have 4 cameras I thought I’d ask.

If you have the DA3 Active Parking Assistance Package you should have Surround View (360-view cameras) as it is part of that package; it's been that way since the beginning. Check your order then check with the dealer.

Okay, you do not have it. "Active Parking Assist" is the standard feature using the ultrasonic sensors (Parktronic) rather than cameras. DA3 is a $400 option. All the terminology can be really confusing, I know.

Ok, so that means to park the car on its own it uses the sensors instead of a camera? Maybe the front camera (under the MB emblem) is really a sensor and not a camera.

No, it's a camera. I can tell on mine that that is the front viewpoint.

It’s interesting that they equip mine with that front camera but apparently its useless. The only front view I get is obviously the camera at the rear view mirror. It is all confusing. Thanks for trying to help me understand it.

Hmmm....This is a stretch, but it could be the AMG Exterior only comes with that installed, which may be inactive or just a lens with nothing behind it. Do you have cameras under the mirrors, or just the puddle lights?

I do have camera’s under the mirrors. I can turn them on when I change the camera views.

I'm at a bit of a loss. The documentation is not entirely complete. It gives the impression that you only have the rear view camera unless you get the Surround View option. And there are head scratchers. For instance, the manual refers to "Vehicles without Active Parking Assist," but all GLEs have that standard.

Well, I figured it out when I looked at it closely when we got from dinner. It’s not really a camera, but just a look alike. You can tell in the picture, but not in person unless you are right up to it. Sorry to spin your wheels.

So, I think my guess that the AMG kit has that spot dedicated and it either has a real camera or fake is correct. There are apparently two different grilles for the standard exterior. That still doesn't explain why you have side cameras.
Mine has a front camera under the Star and also a pair of what looks like radar sending units under the top lip of the bumper. Then there is a large Camera in the center windshield and a triangle piece on each side of the Camera that are probably receivers for the Radar. That’s my guess but can’t find any documentation. I have the complete Driver Assistance Plus that includes Distronic.
I also have Park Assist!
Excuse me for posting these sideways. I thought I had rotated them. First is one located below the bumper lip and second is beside the Windshield Camera.

The main long-distance radar for Active Distance Assist Distronic resides behind the front grille star emblem; that's why the Illuminated Star (D03) is not available with that option.
