At the mbusa web page, you can download a brochure for the 2020 GLE, and it has the GLE 580 in it (delayed availability, it says). So apparently it's for real.

It's been in the dealer order guide since 3-21-19.

I wouldn't hold my breath for that, the GLE53 or the standard 2 wheel drive GLE350 til all the current delays for current versions are worked out. I'm willing to bet they'll delay the 2wd til 2021 model year, since we're already in summer, when it was supposed to be out (per autotrader article).

You think they'll even bother to sell a GLE53? It'd have less hp than the 580.
I've also read speculation there won't be a GLC53, but instead a GLE45 (or some number), with the new 400+ hp IL-4.

The GLE 53 was formally announced by MBUSA back in February, so it is coming. The 580 may be a stopgap until it and the 63 are out next year. Upmarket GLC will not have a 53 designation; since last one was 43, 45 is a good bet.

"Both the SUV and the Coupe benefit from the 3.0-liter V6 engine’s 23 hp output increase, taking it to 385 hp. The peak torque of 384 lb-ft is available from 2500 to 4500 rpm. The higher output can be attributed to larger turbochargers and new software adjustments. The larger, stand-alone turbocharger units are mounted close to the engine and respond swiftly, thereby guaranteeing exceptional performance: it takes a mere 4.7 seconds for the SUV and the Coupe to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph. The top speed is electronically limited to 130 mph, unless equipped with the optionally available 21” wheels with Summer Performance Tires, which raise the top speed to 155 mph. The powerful AMG engine is visually identifiable by a red aluminum insert and AMG lettering on its engine cover." --MBUSA

Doesn't seem like it's the same engine. GLE 450 I6 vs GLC43 V6.

I think he mis-spoke. It's a derivative of the 2019 GLE 400 engine.

Ah. Didn't know it shared the engine with the 2019.

GLC43 has same engine as the 2019+ C43 Sedan. It's the exact same engine as the prefacelift one with 362hp/384lb ft but just like with C43 they upped the boost preassure or redid some internals or something so it makes 385hp/384lb ft. It's a V shaped engine, the M276. Same one as the E43 from 2017 and '18, last gen GLE43 and GLE450 AMG Sport, and vehicles like the E400/E450, S450, SL450, current GLS450, etc. The new 2020 GLE450 uses the new M256 inline 6 engine, with a single Turbo instead of Twin Turbos. It's a completely different engine. That engine is also in the CLS450, euro S450, upcoming 2020 GLS450, and all the 53 models like E53, GLE53, AMG GT53, etc.

I get it guys, I just read the Headlines on a news feed. The GLE 43 had less power than the current 450 so with the Electric Turbo on the upcoming GLE 53 HP could easily exceed 400 with some tweaks and a larger Turbo.

Yup. GLE 53 is rated at 429 HP + EQ Boost IIRC.

EDIT: 435 HP + 22 HP from EQ Boost.

Oh how I hope we see the GLE580 here in Australia, but that's probably wishful thinking. If it's only going to be a temporary model until the GLE63 arrives they probably won't bother building it for the RHD market.

Stranger things have happened though, so we'll have to wait & see.

My lease runs out in July 2020 so one of these as a replacement would be fantastic!

Sat it my first V167 GLE a few weeks ago while getting my car serviced, think it was a 300d but it was pretty loaded, and was very impressive.

We're also starting to see a few other V167 GLEs on the road here too now

435 is in PS, which is the Euro way of measuring horse power (and most of the world). It's 429 in bhp, just like you said, and the same as all the current 53 models
