Hmmm? So the R&T writer thinks the Aviator is a better vehicle than a GLE?!! I did consider test driving an Aviator and have a good friend who just bought one and loves it. And his other vehicle is an E-class coupe. In fact, he has been a Mercedes proponent for as long as I can remember. But, the Aviator looks cumbersome and dated on the exterior and the interior is absolutely 1980’s FOMOCO schlock to my eye. Oh well, there’s a butt for every seat and just like there is an audience for the Genesis, there will be one for the Aviator. It just won’t include me.

I feel like they won't get as much crap as MB, as people expect "the best or nothing" from Mercedes, and so when people saw the "iPad stuck to the dash" design, they expected something much better and elegant like all the previous models had been.

The R&T writer, Mack Hogan, seems to have a penchant for outdated cars. It's not surprising he prefers the Aviator to the GLE. His favorite SUV is the 2020 4Runner which probably still has a cassette player in the dash. I have no idea why R&T has a guy like this review luxury cars. He has nothing in common with the typical luxury car buyer.

Please understand that the "tablet-type" screen was not designed to mimic a iPad - the reason for the design is so the screen can be larger - and the dash can be farther "back" from the driver/passenger (back - meaning closer to the engine compartment) to give more "chest room" - and so the dash can be made lower and the screen positioned higher.
It was just a customer reaction - "is that a iPad - does it come out?" - yes, the Executive Plus Reat Seat Controller - and the Mercedes RSE units are now Android tablets - but heck that's convergence of technologies (and not exactly there right yet)
