How do you disable this thing from going into HOLD?

How do you disable this thing from going into HOLD?

Apparently, it goes into HOLD from just pressing the brake hard?

What???

The HOLD function is manually engaged by you. The steps are explained in the owner's manual. Stop doing them and it won't activate. Essentially the HOLD function activates if you stab the brake harder after you've already come to a stop.

Yes, pushing the brake pedal harder after you already braked.

Which is absurd.

Why is that absurd? It's a very elegant implementation and gives you full control over it. Normally when coming to a stop, one eases off the brake for a smooth stop and not stab on it. Sounds like you need to break a bad habit.

What full control?

Full control is being able to turn it off.

Here I am having trouble activating it. I guess I'm a light braker.

It takes quite a bit of effort getting it to the HOLD mode, and it has to be intentional. It doesn't turn on just by braking normally, and only applies when stopped. Unless you're apex-braking into every traffic stop (but even then it doesn't even go into HOLD mode since you're not stopped, yet).

And it's also "disabled" at all times, and only enabled by the user/driver.

Maybe yours needs to be calibrated, but it simply doesn't engage by just braking normally, even hard braking. I drive an AMG and brake hard often. In fact when I first got my car I wanted to use it and I couldn't reliably get it to engage until I learned the right motion. It literally takes a bit of a jab and you have to be at a full stop for a second or so. However, even if it engages inadvertently, which does happen to me sometimes now that it has become muscle memory, what exactly is the issue? It releases automatically the moment you step on the throttle, or you can jab the brake pedal again to manually release it.

Perhaps there are a few YouTube videos that can help you. Seems like we can't.
Have you figured out the gearshift yet? The Hyundai might be easier for you.
Good luck.

Post just proves you can't please everyone all the time--I believe this is the first complaint I've seen regarding the hold mode.

I'm curious, you seem quite enamored by the Palisade, why didn't you buy one?

I think it's a great feature as well especially during long stops where you don't want to put it in park.

If it's so great, how come my BMW X5 didn't copy it?

because this technology has been implemented in Mercedes for almost 18 years and bmw or Hyundai have yet to catch up. Just so you are aware, your Mercedes also has lots of other features decades ahead of other manufacturers so if you want to live in 1990, please choose another brand that only sells you a fancy stereo surrounded by crap, exactly the opposite of the experience most of us here are after. Best to do a strait up trade for a palisade. If you can’t find one, perhaps I buy one and trade strait up with you? What are they, like 35k...

They have on new ones with 48Volt batteries, it is called auto hold and there is no button to disable stop/start. As someone said if you don't want it to hold don't press the brake down, not difficult.

I love the HOLD feature. I also had it in my MY13 B200 CDI and works great for complicated manoeuvres.
