What are the odds that the only dealership I popped in was the one with markup..lol

Good to know I have options available in Houston. Thanks!

And of course you paid a deposit and locked in the price. Good for you to actually consider it a Business Transition!

Thanks for doing your part to improve the demand imbalance, but don't think the situation will change, even after the supplies start catching up in a couple of years.

The entire scheme by manufacturers has changed. Expect the "Days Supply" to drop significantly, meaning the inventory levels will continue to be slimmer. Less Floor Plan expense, especially now that interest rates are rising back to normal.
Once the Industry was "OK" with 70 - 75 Days Supply, but now they are heading toward half that or less. Also will mean more cars will be Special Ordered. Also a lot fewer "Clearance Sales" and manufacturer incentives, including teaser finance rates and subsidized lease residuals. Mercedes has seen <5 days supply Nationwide, several times this past year. Why would you heavily discount something in your inventory that's in really high demand?

The Industry has been moving from "Just In Time" (JIT) ordering to more vertically integrated, for a couple of decades now. There was just too much dependency on outside Stuff - China, notably.
Tesla, being a newcomer, benefited from this new knowledge, and started out with very little JIT, and it's paid off well with the supply chain interruptions.
The Virus has accelerated these changes - manufacturers acquiring their suppliers and/or building their own supply chain.

The days of "Blowout July Sale, Hundreds Below Invoice" won't be seen anytime soon.

Dealers will be selling the Cars, not the Deal. I think that's the way it should be. After all, you can't drive a "Deal."

But you get the best "Deals" on cars nobody wants.

lol, a quote is as good as Tommy boys warranty on brake pads. If everyone just takes it, the manufacturers continue. Mercedes is not encouraging markups, they are encouraging orders to not be canceled by not giving unrealistic options that may not be available to all. Flood their lines and inboxes and make them all earn the markup. Do nothing and be the lemming?

I recently started a build but only required a 2K deposit (friend recently did X7 and they only required 1K down) ... my previous build was missing a few things and dealer refunded my 2K and even on current one only asking 2K deposit that they are giving back if one doesn't accept the order

I'd try another dealer for sure

. You are absolutely right that they are charging 5K and more. When buying my GLE 350 last November, one dealer in Ohio wanted to tack on $5,000! When questioned, they did it with a got ya smile. I went elsewhere.

With used ones going for +$10k, you missed a profit opportunity!

Just data:

The average price paid for a new vehicle has been “over sticker” throughout 2022. In June, new vehicles from Honda, Kia, and Mercedes-Benz were transacting on average between 6.5% and 8.7% over MSRP. On the other side of the spectrum, Buick, Lincoln, and Ram were selling at nearly 1% below MSRP.

In November, 2021, the first Mercedes-Benz in northern Ohio I went too informed me that there was a 5K markup on the GLE 350. I was also told in a “hurry up and get them while they last” voice that the markup for the GLE 450 was 7 to 10k markup. All U could do was stare at him while walking out the door. I did purchase it at MSRP at another dealer. They even threw in floor Mats. Fact is, though I like Mercedes-Benz, I will not pay over list fot it, or any other car. There are other luxury vehicle manufacturers out there. To prove my point, it’s very possible that the price of Mercedes-Benz vehicle will increase simply because some will pay 5K to 15K over list.
