Ordered a GLE 300d On 12.7.2015

Hoping it is here by March.....Black on black with sport exterior and night package.

Not much else, Harmon Kardon, trailer hitch, convenience package. Wasn't enthused about all the "safety" packages.

Wanted Sport interior but changed my mind after sitting in one. Seats were definitely (or felt anyway) "shorter" not too mention the added side supports. So, I passed. But man I REALLY wanted that flat bottom steering wheel.

Wanted to get back in a diesel after being in a Q5 for a bit.

Fingers crossed huh?

Jeff

Jsut curious, have you test driven one? The reason I say this is imho, the car is quite underpowered and this engine maybe sufficient in the GLK but definitely lacks power for the size of a GLE..otherwise, the GLE is a fine SUV and congrats on the order!

As for the steering wheel, i am sure you can change it, as long as the airbag fits.

GLE Order

Thanks for the input, yes I drove one and was sufficiently satisfied. I'm not too big on performance and what not. I mean, I get that I don't want a slug but more important considerations were paramount.

Nonetheless, I hear what you are saying.

Freaks me out about swapping steering wheels! LOL

Thanks!

I have a GLE 300d loaner and it has an amazing amount of power. It also gets close to 40 mpg on the highway. So impressed with it. My 300d is on order and will be here the end of January.
Happy Holidays.

Agreed.

If you buy a 300d, keep in mind that it won't be on the racetrack anytime soon(I came from a 13 SRT Jeep Grand Cherokee so I have an intimate understanding of what it is like to drive an incredibly fast SUV). The 300D is designed to get great mileage and give one the piece of mind that you will have a diesel that is around for the long run. Mine isn't broken in yet, but I am averaging around 29 on the highway. 24 combined. It has adequate power to pass on the two lane highways here in Montana.

Jeff,

Contact Surinder @ Bakersfield MB. He can track one down for you. Our local dealership was also 4-5 months out. He found one for me in a matter of days. They can ship them nationwide for less than 1000 bucks. My wife went and picked mine up.

Jeffzou, how are you liking your 300d after all the months after purchasing? Still happy? How is the gas mileage?

Picked up my GLE 300d in January. What a great car. 35 mpg in the highway and such luxury comforts. I recommend the hk sound, lighting pkg, parktronic, and heated steering wheel. Love the saddle leather interior too. You can't go wrong with this vehicle.

Thanks for the reply William. Great info. I'm on another thread with a similar subject so I'll ask here too: do you have standard tires on your 300d (i.e. not run flats)? Do you also have a spare tire in case you get a flat on one of those tires? I drive to Tahoe like every weekend so looking for a true snowmobile of a SUV.

I have standard 18 inch michelin tires with a donut spare. I think the tires are extended mobility tires which are similar to run flats.

Didn't get it

So...car finally arrived and 2 weeks before it got here my employer of 30 years eliminated my position...

So, in spite of how beautiful the car was I had to say no to it. Ugh.

But IO wanted a new car for what was now an IMMEDIATE retirement ! LOL

Instead, we found a 2016 GLC black on black and bought it for about $15,000 grand less.

Overall experience in that car so far after one month of ownership is = HAPPY TO BE BACK IN A MB. Nothing drives like it.

Curious jeffzou, what did you lose by backing out on your order? Was it a down payment and how much?

Lost not one thin dime. The dealership (MB Laguna Niguel) was very understanding.

Couldn't have asked for a better experience

So you did a custom order of a GLE and the dealer let you off the hook? That's an awesome dealer. I guess you also drove away with a GLC so it wasn't like they didn't get anything out of your pocket.

They were awesome but I did not even buy my new GLC from them. They didn't have anything in stock or on the boat I was interested in.

Part of the reason I am loyal to MB is that the "experience" from start to finish is always extraordinary to me.

This is just another example.
