Next SUV purchase...GLE350...questions
Hi all,
I have a lot of question for my next car purchase and trying to decide the right one and the right timing.
I will be leasing for 3 years and would like to get into the right cycle. When will be the next complete redesign get released.
If it is 2019, and I get the GLE350 in 2016 or early 2017, by the time the new redesign is in its 2nd year I will be up for another lease which would be great and I will be able to avoid the first model year of the redesigned GLE.
Will the redesign have the new e class interiors?
The other cars I am considering are the XC90, bmw X5 and the MDX. MDX is the cheapest and doesn't not compete luxury/quality wise, but it's a good value.
Do owners of GLE350 also have an MDX as your family care when you need to have 7 people fit in a car? how do you feel driving the GLE350 and switching to the MDX occasionally?
The X5 is also supposed to be redesigned for next year and I feel its not as comfortable of a drive, this is all based on a very short test drive.
The XC90 looks great and looks the most modern and I like its infotainment, but its having too many issues and I don't want to get a car even on lease that will be in the car shop constantly.
Lastly I read a thread about GLE350 still using halogen bulbs, did I misread it or I thought at this price point it has LED headlights?

2014 E63S; AMS 100 octane ecu tune; edok tcu tune; BB intakes; dyno tuned
we have a 2014 Mdx and a 2014 e63S, had a 2014 e550 and my dad has a 2016 e350
the Mdx is great for 7 but truly doesn't have the quality feel of the Benz. It's reliable and smooth and trouble free and a goood looker. The STANDARD led lights are awesome though they are not active
the Mdx is good, not great value
some don't like the new 9 spd transmission in the Mdx so make sure you take a king test drive . We have the old 6 spd in our Mdx which is butter smooth but boring

the GLE and GLS come with halogens as standard. One would assume that at these price points one would expect LEDs or at the least HIDs, but thats not the case. You'd have to get the P2 package for the GLE to get the LEDs. That's an extra $5k if I'm not mistaken and for the GLS you'd have to get the lighting package which is $1300. Otherwise, you'd be stuck with HORRIBLE halogens.

I would personally not go with MB this round on this vehicle. I have multiple small issues that should not be on this vehicle and there are some that you can't change (Adaptive transmission for example). You may want to rent the car for a week and drive it around to get a feel. I like the drive of the X5 far better(transmission doesn't lag, you get a ton of torque, it's responsive, not as comfy but better tires can help, it was a rental after all), the downside is the "SUV" portion which MB is better at. Ok, I am a bimmer guy. But I have owned 5 MB's over the years. But my passion is for BMW's. Had two Saabs and loved them too. That said, for a SUV, I just love the M Class and now the GLE. My wife put 146k miles on our 2007 ML350 with very little repairs and no break downs. That is why we bought another one. She has never been fond of the sporty ride of the BMW X's. I really love our new GLE 350 and the ride and handling is far superior to the older 07 ML350. It's a great SUV. But as other have said, the standard Halogen headlights are a joke and a huge bruise on my respect for the MB brand. The ML350 we traded in had absolutely wonderful HID's. So other than GET THE LIGHT PACKAGE, its a great SUV. Its my first choice of the ones on your list. I still prefer my 5 series, but I can't haul crap or pull the boat.

The question is why dou you drive a GLE instead of a X5
No question the X5 feels faster and more throttle-responsive. For me the X5 looks disproportional with wheels smaller than 20" and too korean-like from the front without a M-package. M-suspension combined with 20" makes the ride too firm for my taste and that's why for me the GLE wins. Another thing is that the GLE is strangely quiet inside compared to the X5 which was the major plus for me. maybe the gearbox of BMW is slightly better but the difference is not sifgnificant comapred to the 9 Gtronic.

So, do you guys recommend going for the 2017 GLE or not? or get the X5 or the MDX and wait for the redesign and get it then, when our C300 lease expires in 2018.
Ohh and how is the cargo capacity on the GLE350 compared to the X5 or the MDX.

Drove the X5 for a week after I made the purchase. I got a massive discount(with all my options I paid the base amount) beacuse of FLEET and ordering it prior to it actually arriving on the show room. I thought MB would have kept the same quality as what they put into our 2000 E320 (that thing is a beast). Dont get me wrong, the GLE has it's perks, but for me the negatives outweigh the positives. The difference in the gearbox is that MB use adaptaive transmission and does not have a Turbo on the GLE. The adaptaive transmission is what destroys the greatness of driving the vehicle. If they removed that or had a way to disable it, it wouldnt be such an issue.

I think there is some misinformation here... GLE not has Dynamic profile selection Sport, Comfort, Slippery/ECO... sure the X5 has a different "drive feel" - GLE has it's own "drive feel" ... but sh*t for comfort - everyday driving or long distance - a lot to be said for the GLE... oh, I don't like X5 infotainment controls and/or user layout - at all - it's 1990's...

The 2017 GLE43 Full SUV has:
The GLE43 sports a 3.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V6 engine, which is good for 362 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque. The only available transmission is a nine-speed automatic, and all-wheel drive is standard equipment.

I believe the 2019 model year will be the release of the all new next gen gle. I think it is safe to presume it will have an interior similar to the new e class. I just hope they keep the SUV look and don't go minivan like the current X5 or like the station wagon look of the q7.
