Power Closing Doors

I am currently planning to buy a GLE500e, and am interested in the soft close door option.
Reason: My wife is continually slamming the ML350 doors as she exits, despite them being in perfect condition.
Would this soft close option be likely to prevent her slamming, or would it be a waste of money?

If she has a habit of slamming car doors, my recommendation would be to NOT get the soft close option. This feature is not intended to "stop" people from slamming the door. It's designed to fully close a partially closed door. You're not supposed to "slam" the doors with this feature. It puts undue stress on the components.

Problably yanks power closing tailgate down too???

Don't get it if you have door slammers in the household.

adding my ney to the list. was planning on ordering it but what i thought it was and what the sales rep explained (as above) were 2 very different things. spent the life of my '93 te asking everyone NOT TO SLAM the liftgate. not again! pass, and let her slam away. good luck ron

I purposely did not get them for the fact I didn't want to be the nanny and tell my wife and others each time they stepped out to not slam the doors....it would have driven me crazy.

They work great if you have an infant/toddler and you want to gently close the door. Not related but anyway.

This is the reason we got the soft close doors. Expecting our first child, and my wife feels that once the child is old enough, it will assist them with closing the door. Not having to slam it closed is something I had not thought about but it makes sense. You don't even have to really push at all. Once the door is up close to the frame but not shut, the door essentially shuts itself. I am sure the dealer can show you the operation on another vehicle.

That said, I used to be a door slammer, and it has definitely changed my ways. My wife forgets sometimes and still slams it. If I was not having a kid, I would probably forgo this option.
