(Need Opinion) It is worth waitting GLE 2018/2019

Hi Guys, just planning to buy a brand new 2017 GLE..
after make some research about the upcoming model, seems like there will be an all new version in the 2018/2019 model.
base on the spy video up there, what do you think guys, which model is have a better exterior and interior design

(ps: somehow it seems the 2017 model is the best for the exterior)

frankj9000 08-27-2017 09:37 PM

If you read about the new GLE I think the expectation is the exterior will change slightly and the interior will become much more like the current e300 sedan. Which is very cool inside.

Mmm consider the headlight, which model year do you personally like best?

First year purchasers are the "beta" users. I faced the same dilemma. Ordered 2018. 2019 is going unibody. Plus dealers are meeting resistance on the new E class. They say users are being overwhelmed with all the new technology. Plus Mercedes usually takes a year or 2 before they have the full offering available. Figure no AMG exterior package for sure in first year. I am purchasing the 2018 model which has been refined as good it gets, keep it 3 years or so and then change to new model. The real scary thing is the engine lineup in the E class. They put the same 4 cylinder that in the C class. Are they going to do the same with the new GLE?

frankj9000 08-28-2017 09:08 PM

I completly agree with rigiorio, and exactly what i am doing. I figure the 2018 should be a bullet proff as possible, 3 year lease, then see what is happening with the tech.

Tow max

This generation will be the better choice for towing and 4/5 seats. Future versions will not have this generations capacity, just see other unibody 4/5 VW brad/BMW seat SUVs.

I don't like how the display on the current GLE sticks out like an iPad, the wide built in screen on the E-class looks so much better and the new GLE should be similar. From the outside the new GLE should look like GLC's big brother and the GLC is a big success! The new i6 engines run smoother, more fuel efficient and with the built in starter generator are very responsive. I can't wait for the new generation!

The "standing iPad" is not as esthetic as it could be neither is the knob/touchpad in the center console ergonomic in a world of touch screen devices. Niggles, with fixes in next-gen these niggles may go away, other niggles will appear. :nix:

You are right although I'm glad that Mercedes has stayed away from touch screens, they are just gross and distracting and before you say anything... yes my iPhone is gross too :)

IMO, don't. I dislike this car for the money I paid. It's a nice suburban vehicle but has flaws. The materials inside feel cheap compared to audi or BMW. The transmission currently used is flawed in the first gears- there's a palpable thud while shifting gears. The adaptive transmission will gimp you- ive been in dangerous situations that required acceleration and despite mashing on the gas the car just revs and does nothing). You MUST get the upgraded headlights, ie the LED; the halogens are a legitimate safety hazard (you can't see anything with them)- so add the larger package. You must replace the stock continentals after 25k miles- they are not even recommended for this vehicle on tirerack--spend the 1K and get michelin defenders. COMAND center is useless and slow; the remote start features will work 1% of the time so don't count on it.

I've been plagued with all sorts of problems: sunroof has an air leak which they said is normal, even after a calibration it's still there. My AC does not turn off when you push the button, you have to turn off the HVAC then turn it back on. Intermittenly the sunroof will only open a few inches, requiring me to push the open button multiple times. There's a smell from the AC when you shut it off. I've been to 2 different dealers and none of them have been able to fix it.

It's a fine car if you're not expecting performance of any kind, however driving this and the ML350 there is something distinctly different so I don't know what MB did with this GLE. There are plenty of other companies giving more performance and luxury for much less. IF you must go with MB, then get the AMG version.

Does anyone know if the gle be revealed at the 2018 detroit motor show?

Strafzettel 09-06-2017 09:19 PM

Remember how I said the 2019 model is worth waiting for?? I just ordered a 2018 GLE550e... I guess I'm not good at waiting :nix: I custom ordered again, so the next 3 months are going to be looong 3 months :smash:

Demand at AL plant is strong...

Just saw a news posting that the AL factory has been running 2 shifts all summer to meet demand for the GLE. So expect wait times for special orders to continue. Mine took +2 months for a early May AMG GLE order. But shipping was quicker then "standard" 7 days.

I have had the first of the last three all new generations of ML, and though there have been issues, plan to do it again next year with the (assumed) W167. The biggest change I'm hoping for is the new M256 straight six engine with 48v electrical http://autoweek.com/article/technolo...en-well-see-it. That would be awesome! As a BMW fan as well, I have always like the inline 6, which is inherently balanced.

Thanks for the info! Don't know if that makes a difference with production time but I'm sure there is more demand for AMG's vs 350's or Hybrids?

I'm gunna wait for the new model just took a ride in one with 5 people and it was very cramped and barely any legroom with all of us being close to 5"10 or above. The new one looks longer and wider, would love to see the inline 6 be i think it will be few years before it makes it in there.

Give me physical buttons/knobs. I think touch screens are dangerous. We're already distracted as it is but now you're forced to take your eyes off the road. You have to look away to see what screen you're on or where you're pressing.

2019/20 GLE to get straight-six?

I'm almost certain the next gen GLE will get the straight six, which is debuting in the CLS. It makes no sense to use the old V-engine in a brand new model. Per Autoweek, speaking of the new 53 line replacing the 43, "The GLE midsize crossover is another candidate for a 53 model. The GLE will be redesigned in 2018 with a likely U.S. on-sale date in early 2019. The AMG model would come after that."

I read the Autoweek article and see they gonna have a AMG CLS53 and no AMG CLS63. Now I wonder if MB will do same with GLE and have a AMG GLE53 but no AMG GLE63?

Given the power train sharing there has been historically thee will undoubtedly be a GLE 53. As far as future models higher up the rung I wouldn’t trust anyone below MB corporate to know that yet.

You called - rang the right bell - No on GLE53 for MY2019 - planned for MY2020 but too early to commit that 100%
