NEW 2020 GLE Interior Leaked!

https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...2d23558b44.png
Here it is! What we have all been waiting for. I think the interior is way different from the old GLE and is a good departure. The air vent situation around the dual screens is odd....needs to grow on me. Opinions?

JohnnyC 08-08-2018 01:26 PM

air vents look disgusting. why is the right side different from the left?

The grab handles look really misplaced as well. Why would a driver need it if their hands would be on the steering wheel?

mrmotoguzzi00 08-08-2018 03:56 PM

first impression....... I dont like it......... was hoping for the E-Class dash of the long wide screen layout.... dont get the handles ? is that a new thing for newer cars or something ?

GeoX750 08-09-2018 12:10 AM

Wow. It can't be. That is terrible on so many levels.

That's what I expected as well. Nothing about this interior "flows". The E Class has smooth, elegant lines that flow. This is a mix of heterogeneous components thrown together. Ugh!!!!!

I can't understand what the reason for them would be, but they are not the first to use them. They've been on the Porsche Cayenne models for a while now. Here's a pic of the interior of a current Cayenne, and the handles on this model, while there, are a little more subtle:

Here is a cleaner pic from the other side. With the screens on and the ambient lighting on I think its gonna look awesome.

don’t like it. something doesn’t look right

The dash design may have been driven by the need to get the display closer to the driver due to the touch-enabled right half of the display. Setting the display back into the dash as they did on the S Class may have put it out of a comfortable reach and having the dash hang over the top edge may too have interfered with using the touch screen. And the addition of the grab handles may have been added to protect the new touchpad. I'm sure the engineers looked at several possible designs.

That sounds good in theory, but I'm not buying it. Look at the pic of the 2019 GLA interior. Same controller and touch pad. No grab bars! As far as the "getting the display closer to the driver", having it sit out front like that only makes a minuscule difference. They could have even kept it the same distance and put some kind of trim around the edges to make it appear more integrated into the dash. Or better yet, went with a completely different dash design. I love my car, but I'm not about to defend MB's poor engineering on this one. It's just plain UGLY!!!

It's almost like people want to like this so badly, they're convincing themselves it's not that bad. This happens when you anticipate the next generation design for months. Then, when you see it, it's a huge letdown. You mind says, "Hey, I need to learn to like it."

I'm wasn't trying to make you or anyone else except this design, just posted my observations. Chill out.

Don't like the interior design. The screen seems just like some after-thought idea. It's like after everything is done then the designer realize the screen is forgot and then stick it wherever can fit. Uhhh..

BACnMercedes 08-21-2018 01:12 PM

That is bad. To me it looks like they just used some double sided tape and stuck the screens over the top of a normal dash because they ran out of time, money, or just forgot to add them till the very end. And whats up with the 4 (FOUR!!) air vents along the middle! Do you really need that many to adjust? (But then again, those round ones on the GLA are hideuos too). I bet some versions will get that horrible "diamond" front grill. Oh well, hopefully when we actually see them in the wild they will be better.

BenzMan369 08-21-2018 05:36 PM

Well, I guess we are all different when it comes to defining beauty. I imagine many will love this look.

As for me, I’ve been a Mercedes owner exclusively for almost 20 years. Was looking forward to possibly buying my first SUV ever – a 2020 GLE. Then I saw these pix. Hard to believe this is a legitimate photo of the finished product. I will not spend 70K+ to stare down at that abortion while driving. “Mercedes Sensual Purity Design Language” my xxx.

Perhaps it’s only for the “short year” 2019 model and they will update the dash again for the fully re-designed 2020 GLE??

As a reference, a photo of the 2019 G Class dash. AKA an idea of what the GLE could have resembled to the extent feasible: https://www.motortrend.ca/en/news/in...s-dashboard-01

Yeah ya right. A version of the 2019 G-Wagon would have been much much better:

I kind of doubt that. It wouldn't be cost effective.

Why is everyone drawing conclusions on unofficial pics of an unfinished interior? It's really gonna seem silly when they release the official pics in every configuration.

JoeMa 08-21-2018 10:37 PM

I agree, official photos shouldn't be much longer. The GLE interior is similar to the Maybach Vision SUV concept so we shouldn't have been surprised:

So you actually believe when the "official" interior pics come it will be difference and without those center console handles? That's really too optimistic. Why would they be on the test mule if not going into production - handles are not test equipment.

alfaromeo 08-22-2018 10:26 AM

I think that is it regarding interior. Overall, I just can't adopt the "stuck on" type of design. It looks not integrated with the whole interior space well. Even the G-class, although it's better than GLE pictures, isn't my cup of tea.

Of course the handles will be there, who said they wouldn't be? The fit and finish will be showroom ready and it will be shown in different colors and trims. The design is frozen already.

I think the final fit may feel different once we get to see it in person.
