Faint (but audible) clunk/knock when turning

Hey all, I've got a 2019 GLE63, and a few weeks ago, I noticed that the car had a slight (yet consistent) clunk/knock when turning the wheel at low speeds, and I'm not too sure what it is. It just started happening out of the blue. Does anyone have any idea as to what the potential cause would be? I want to get a few opinions here before I take the car in and have it checked out. The car is 6 months old with around 1600 miles. Thanks!

Seems fairly common, do some searching. My W166 GLE350 does it. I’m pretty sure it is the firewall bearing on the steering column. I plan to ask for it to be replaced under warranty at the next scheduled service.

I call it a click or knock or tick. Happens most often when entering a one wheel bump with the steering wheel turned. Like when entering a driveway. This loads the tie rods and puts torque on the steering column assembly.

Is the 2019 model the W166 platform or the next gen?

Have a 2017 GLE43 Coupe that had the same problem. Sorted out at the dealer about two weeks back. I understand it was a bearing issue.

Thanks for your reply! What you described is the same thing I'm experiencing. I'll have the dealership take a look at the firewall bearing this week! Also yes, the 2019 is the last model year for the W166 generation. The V167 is a 2020 car.

I asked the dealer to address this at the last service. They could not replicate the noise. In fairness, it has disappeared. It seems weather dependent. I see again in cold weather.
