Best all season, long wearing tire?

What is the best all season, long wearing tire for the GLE350 4MATIC? Surprisingly few tire threads on this site, that are not talking about winter tires.

Currently have Conti Cross Contact LX Sport 265/45R20. My hopeful guess is that I will get about 30,000 miles out of them. I rotate at every service and keep spirited driving to a minimum. The Contis are comfortable and quiet, but seem to be wearing faster than I prefer in a tire.

I got 80,000 miles from factory Goodyear Eagle LS2s on my Touareg, regularly rotated, nearly 100% highway miles. All replacement tires were LS2s and, while I never achieved 80,000 miles again, I was happy with the performance. Long wearing, good fuel economy, comfortable on the highway (when new) and quiet (when new). All tires are less comfortable and noisier as they wear.

Does anyone run the Goodyear Touring on the GLE350 4MATIC?

Why do Mercedes vehicles seem to be known for eating up tires? Is it the toe/camber settings? Driving behavior excluded, particularly in the case of high performance models.

Hi,
i put Goodyear assurance weather ready tires on my GLE 4 Matic 8 months ago.
they have been superb in the snow and rain. They are quiet and handle well.
They seem to be wearing well, but this is a little hard to tell at this point.
i bought them because of the tire- rack reviews from people who put them on their SUV’s.
Hope this helps...

80000miles from a tire, really!!!

That's like a dream to some of us. I struggle to get 12000miles and the tires are not cheap!

Michelin Defender LTX

Thanks Sigp. What is your experience with the Michelins? How do they compare with other tires for wear, noise and comfort?

I have them on my FJ last 3 years run great. Treadwear 👍 rain grip👍 nice and quiet on highway for a truck.
Put them on my GLC 4matic 19 inch last month big difference compared to the RFT Contis. Smoother and quieter ride. Bumps feel like you glide over them not that jolt from RFT. Never again RFT for me. I like the Defenders because of all the positive reviews on Tire Rack and elsewhere they have great tire tread wear depth compared to the Michelin premiers. Got them at Big O tires same prices anywhere (whats a buck up or down) but these guys are open on Sundays wherever you are big plus for me and have them in stock most of the time. This is an easy real life 50,000 mile plus tire. Can’t go wrong with Michelin and they have free towing too under there tire warranty.
For me I’ll take the chances versus RFT.
Having AAA, lucky rabbits foot and a prayer before long trip is all I need.

what psi do you use? winter/summer? i have these tires and love them but wonder if the premiers would be a little quieter. @Sigp232

I follow the info inside the gas filler door card recommendation and add maybe 2 psi more. My GLC says to put front and back 32 i put 34 on all 4. So far so good. Primer maybe little quieter but I like the extra deeper tread. Premier 8.5/32 Defender 10.5/32.
Plus read the reviews on www.michelinman.com

I have ML350 BT, on my second set
Pirelli Scorpion Plus
265/45R20
First set at 45K miles had about 30% left on them, but I don't like to keep them for a long time, temp changes makes rubber not so elastic over a long time. Ride nice and smooth up to 25K miles.
Anyway I think Pirelli is an option for you to consider.

I had the Defenders on my MB for about a month.
they are a nice tire and ride well. The only reason I removed them was because of road noice. It seems that since the tread design and tread depth are so big there is a lot of air being pushed out of them while driving. I returned the tires with Michelin’s recommendation and purchase the Michelin LTX PREMIER. I’m glad I did, super tire, smooth and quiet tire.

I am in the market looking as well, the stock Dunlop is currently at 75%, Debating between Pirelli Verde or Bridgestone Alenza (had them in the past on my old MDX, it was great and lasted quite some time).

Just replaced the original OEM Continentals at 45,800 km (28,000 miles) and went with a set of Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season plus. Got a 4 wheel alignment done at the same time and find the GLE much more planted. Nice to be back in new quiet tires!
