question setting level on 725 transmission without the UT measuring device

I've just recently gotten into servicing the 725 transmission and do not have any intention of purchasing the UT measuring device. It looks pretty straight forward and I have not had any issues with it to date but I've just recently gotten a copy of the MB document that discusses setting level at the correct temperature. My question is in the document it says 5.1 "Transmission 725.0 in model W166, 292 Start engine and heat transmission oil to 59dC", 5.2 says "Transmission 725.0 in model W172, 205, 207, 212, 213, 217, 218, 222, 231, 238, 253 Start the engine and heat transmission oil to 39dC".

I spoke to my local friendly MB Service Advisor and he said it may be because of the cooler thermostat needing to be activated. Does anyone know why different temperatures would be used? Does anyone know which temp to use on the W167?

I wish they would bring back the dipstick.

thanks in advance
