Just Ordered - 2017 GLE43 W4; Comments?
Hello All, another newbie here with a new order in process...
I will try to attach a copy of the order below. Here are some questions and/or items I would appreciate your opinion of. Item order code provided:
U09, MB-Tex Upper Dash and Door Trim: I've noted on some of your orders a code of U08 for only the Upper Dash... Is including the Door Trim an okay idea?
55U, Porcelain Headliner: we have ordered the 114 Expresso Brown MB-Tex seats; what color does the Porcelain really look like? Any of you have these 2 together - would you change it/recommend different? (Dealer states Black Headliner not an option w/Espresso Brown MBTex...).
866, Pre-Wiring for RSE: I've seen in a couple places that this includes the Passenger Seat Lumbar Control - is this really correct; did yours include the Lumbar control?
892, Lockable Rear Storage Compartment ($100): I can not find any info, pictures, etc of this; does anyone have this and what/where exactly is it?
Thanks much for your help, answers, comments!

Do you have kids, pets or carry a lot of boxes/etc. in the car? If yes, do not get the porcelain headliner. If no, get it, don't touch the ceiling and enjoy the fact that it opens the car up a bit. I had a loaner recently with the porcelain, it felt bigger inside, but I knew what it would look like with my 2 kids, dog and fishing equipment.

Heron25 is correct about the headliner, but it doesn't sound like you have a choice if you want the Espresso Brown interior. I would suggest you go to mbusa.com and build it the way you want. It'll show you a rotating 360 degree view of those seats with the Porcelain headliner.
I have the locking compartment. I don't now why half the features on the website don't even have pics. I've included one from the manual. It provides a little extra security if you have to leave valuables in the car.
Do yourself a favor and download both the Operator Manual and the COMAND Manual. Also, get the MB Guide for your smartphone. Both versions allow easy "keyword" searches and bookmarking. That's how I find things quickly. You can familiarize yourself with the features BEFORE your car arrives.

Heron25, good points. We have no worry from kids or large pets at this point.. But I will have to be more disciplined while carrying the snow tires back and forth during seasonal swap outs! (Maybe I will finally get the equipment I need to do the changes myself).
GLE43_Sube - nice info, good suggestions, thank you much. We did see a GLS450 w/Espresso Brown Tex and the black headliner at a dealer - which matches the website build..but the GLE43 build populates with the Porcelain, so I guess the dealer is correct.
Thanks again.

Wow, that's an excellent pic and really helpful. I'm certainly relieved to see it looks so nice; it almost appears as if the seat stitching matches the color tone of the headliner. Thanks again!

Just wish I'd order the MB-Tex dash wrap you got. I had no idea you could get an upgraded dashboard, and my SA never mentioned it either. I assume lol they all came the same.

With a porcelain headliner, forget about kids. It's the mechanics you have to worry about. I had a light headliner in my last car. I was forever cleaning motor oil stains from the headliner and "A" pillar (inside surface). Do yourself a favor and invest in a bottle of "Guardsman". It's a professional dry cleaning fluid. This stuff is amazing! It dissolves motor oil, lipstick, chewing gum, adhesive, grease, paint, wax, crayons, tar, etc. It's safe for even the most delicate fabrics and will not cause color bleeding. It evaporates completely, leaving absolutely no residue. It's cheaper if you can find the 16 ounce bottle. One bottle will last a lifetime. I dip a toothbrush in the solution, gently agitate on stain. Then blot it up with a clean paper towel. I swear by this stuff and have been using it for over 30 years. Hands down the best cleaning solution ever. It used to be called "Afta".

Thanks everyone for all comments, suggestions..
BTW: what does 'last decade of May' mean? - my dealer says that is probably when car will be built, w/delivery in June.

Looks real good Erik. Generally I would have enjoyed P03 items, especially adaptive cruise. But we live in a rural, mountain area and don't feel I would be using or benefiting from most of P3. I'm retired now and we rarely are in dense city traffic or city streets. Regular cruise control works well enough in open interstate areas we normally travel. Thanks.

I almost did the same thing today. Went to the dealer to inquire on truck status, and ask could I order a 2018? Well the sales manager came out and ask why, I told him I was having second though. After a nice discussion on discount for a 2018, September build to order time frame, I decide to keep my 2017. I was assured it would be in by 5/15. I know it is late in the model year, but we're not leasing the car and plan on keeping it into retirement.

I briefly considered an '18 before just settling for the 2017 model; we have been waiting and planning to order since last fall...did not want to delay any longer. We are retired and also plan to try and keep it 6-10 years, maybe longer (fingers crossed).
It was never clear to me what changes in option packages or powertrain will be in the '18. One dealer said they will bump the HP up to like 385, another dealer said no. In any case I am more interested in the Torque...which I assume would have remained the same anyway.

Metallic paint
Leather
Porcelain headliner
Mb-tex dash with the stitching(some cars come with this as standard and some is $450 extra - think this has to do with when ordered)
P3 package
Rear seat entertainment hookup (don't want it but anytime we put a build together, it automatically gets added on)
We put off ordering the 2016 GLE400 waiting for the GLE43W4 to come out so don't think we will wait any longer for the 2018 to come out.
Color combos we are considering is "Iridium silver" with Gray leather interior or possibly "Lunar blue" with Gray leather interior.
Wanted burl walnut trim, but for some reason it is on the sales PDF file, but not on the ordering page, so may go for the Ash.
Has anyone seen any of these combos at a dealer or on the streets and what are your thoughts?
Also, any other "must-have" options?
Thanks!

We have been mulling over this decision for awhile - and now it's come down to color/combos. Only "options" we plan on adding are:

I doubt it, but check with your dealer to be sure. I just looked at mine. The locking latch doesn't look to be removable. You'd have to replace the entire compartment door. Considering the fact that the parcel shelf is $300, you could imagine what that would cost.

Here is my scheduled build. My current car has adaptive cruise control and it's suprisingly useful, so we got the p3 package.

We're in no hurry to order - we've waited this long, so what's a few more months? I actually had the dealer send the latest rev to the ordering guide (GLE). I can't see any real differences in options compared to the 2017 model. Does anyone have any information concerning any options which will be added/deleted, and if there will be any price increase? Also, I may have heard somewhere that the engine HP will be increased (to 380?) and there may be body changes? Possibly this could be for a 2019, but I'm not certain.

How do you get the U09 MB-Tex Dash Board? I just ordered a MY18 GLE43 Coupe due in late August. The U09 was out of allocation.
