Check Your Spare Tire

Check the air pressure in your spare. I inflated mine to spec (61 PSI) about six months ago. Today it was down to 48 PSI. These spares are high pressure tires. Rubber is naturally porous. The higher the tire pressure, the faster air will leak out. Flat tires never happen in the middle of a sunny, warm day. They happen at the worst possible time.....like at 2:00 AM, on a dark lonely road, during a thunderstorm, in a crime ridden neighborhood.

I carry these at all times. I don't want to be at the mercy of Roadside Assistance. Also, remember, the spare will only work on the "rear". The brake calibers and rotors are too big on the front. See the manual.

That's interesting information. I always carry a old school tire plug kit as a second option.

Have it filled with Nitrogen. It will stay inflated a lot longer and N is not expensive.

So, what happens if you have a flat on the front?

Does the rear tire fit on the front? Do you have to take it off the back move it to the front, and then install the spare on the rear tire???

That's exactly what the owner's manual instructs you to do. Might be easier to just fix the dang thing on the spot. That's why I carry a repair kit. If you have the 22's, each rear tire/wheel combo weighs over 80 lbs.!!!!!

It would take you 2 hours to change a flat, if it happens on the front!!! WOW!!!

According to my tire guy. After I put a plug in a tire, (which I've done in the past) ,They will not put a patch inside. I guess it all depends where you get the flat and how much time (and $) you have. It's an expensive temporary fix but then again it could be a lifesaver.

There are tons of videos on YouTube with people saying they've plugged multiple tires and found the fix to be "permanent".

You are correct....Yes it is permanent......But not as safe as a patch.

Provided the sidewall is not damaged they should fit a plug/patch. Change your "tyre guy" if he will not do it.

We used plugs on off-road tyres all the time and they worked perfectly......but I always considered them temporary and got a proper repair done when we hit a town.
