iPhone 11 Pro Max - CarPlay doesn't work with Apple 2 meter Lightning to USB cables
I have a 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLE43 AMG that works great with my iPhone XR on iOS13 using a Apple factory/purchased 2m Lighting to USB cable. Then I got the new iPhone 11 Pro Max and CarPlay doesn't work in the same car. Works great still with the iPhone XR, but not the new iPhone 11 Pro Max. I tried the web for solutions about CarPlay not working and no luck trying the standard tricks. I changed the vehicle setting to auto-connect off, when iPhone 11 Pro Max plugged in, would recognize CarPlay, then try to activate when you pressed connect from the COMAND wheel, then would stop after 5 seconds of trying to connect. As stated, I was using an Apple factory/purchased 2 meter Lighting to USB cable that was wired into the vehicle (behind the dash for a clean install) for ease of use. I tried 2 other brand new Apple 2m cables with still no luck. Then I tried an Apple 1 meter cable and it works great with the iPhone 11 Pro Max, just not any of my Apple 2m cables. Very odd. Now for the really odd part - Then I tried a test and plugged in a 2m Amazon generic USB "extension" cable onto the 2m Apple Lighting cable that was wired into my vehicle and it works great. Go figure. So, in order to not pull the 2m cable from behind the dash, I am running extension cable too and it's working great. Hope this helps someone with the same issues and perhaps Apple can fix the iPhone 11 Pro Max to work with their own 2m cable. My only thought for a reason may be related to the fast charging USB-C option and perhaps this has an issue with the 2m cable, but why it works with the added extension is an unknown to me.
UPDATE: As of iOS 13.6, the 2M Apple cable now works great. Still works in iOS14 too. |
