Parking Sensor Sensitivity

I’m curios does anyone know if its possible to increase the sensitivity of the rear parking sensors on a W166 so that they detect objects sooner, i.e. at a greater distance from the vehicle, I noticed for the rear sensors to activate (beep) the object is literally within 8 inches of the rear bumper, it would be nice to have an earlier warning beep/lights to avoid hitting an objected. Is this something that the dealer can adjust or does the system need recalibration?, It seems 8 inches is too close for comfort, any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks so much

I could not agree more, compared to Ford, Merc have really missed the mark here.

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to see if the dealer can re-map the sensitivity, I know it can be done for the front but not sure about the back, my X5M was very good with park assist and early detection backing up, I'm not sure why Merc missed it? I'll post something once I find out from the dealer.

Yes there is a way to code it. Done it on other vehicle. I don't know if dealer will know how to do it as you have to manually code it.

Thank you for reaching out, what scan too did you use reprogram the parking sensors, some of scanners I was looking to buy one and noticed that many have limited capability of "reprogramming" Mercedes vehicles, any insight would be helpful.

Thanks so much

You can only use star diagnostic with dts or vediamo to code these options.
I'm not sure where you located. If your in Ontario I can help you. If not find someone with star. There are other options like j2534 pass thru which you can setup with dts. This will be a cheaper options. Or send me a pm and I can ask my partner he sells a device than can code it without any computer. He can add other options like start stop Remer last setting, headlight coding and more

On the 167 chassis, you can go into the menu and adjust the parking sensor sensitivity.
Drilling down into the menu, you can set the parking sensors to "Warn early all around."

I never felt the need on our 166 or 164, so I don't know if there's a menu option somewhere.

Thanks for the reply. There is no option in the w166 to alter the parking sensor sensitivity, at least I in the vehicle option menu. I did have have this feature in my X5. I think the sensitivity on the w166 will involve as an internal re-program.
