Philips Xenon for my GLK

Ok people, here's a pic of the philips xenon kit I had put into my GLK. Was done by a friend of mine who owns 212 Motoring in BKLYN. Honestly I wouldn't have trusted any else to do it. In my opinion they look just as good, if not better then factory. Color is amazing at night! Let me know what you all think!

Looks good. Can you take a few extra pics from a distance when you get some time.

Thanks

Looks very good, whould never guess it's not stock. I'm picking mine up tomorrow, will take a pic at night and we can compare. Take some pics so you can see both healights aiming at you. What kelvin rating are these bulbs? 8000K?

On a side note I liked the other old picture in your profile better.

I think stock xenons are 6000K so they will be whiter, but I really like the blue tint.

It's funny, a guy in a brand new CLS pulled me over the other night and was like YO, how come your lights came like that and mine didn't. He had the stock xenons from the factory. Mine were just a lil brighter with a really slight hint of blue. There close in color to the factory xenons I had in my Audi A8L. I'm luvin how they look at night!

I think the reason MB puts 6000k is that they are actually brighter. I read that 6000k is the optimum temprature that gives the highest level of light output in Lumens. I do like the ones you have better, and they are prolly more expensive than what MB uses.
What brand are those bulbs that he put in?

EDIT: NVM they are phillips haha. How much just for the bubls?

I think the OEM bulb in GLK is 4300k since the new C-class uses 4300k.

It's not just bubls, there are some extra parts (wiring, balast etc.) You can look for a kit on the internet, I saw one for 100-150 bux I think.

Sean if i may kindly ask how's the lighting in the evening ?? With the kit being at 8000K it does look HOT however im also concerned about being able to see since im already blind as a bat without my contacts i heard the higher the Lumens the trade off is less lighting ?? Sorry if that didnt make sense hope you understood ?? TIA

Higher the kelvin lower the lumen (amount of light).

Well at first as temp. in kelvins goes up, lumens also go up and peak at temp. of about 5-6000K. After that as temp goes up further lumens drop. 8000K is good, has pretty much the same output as 6000k. In either way it's better that halogen lights.

Amount of light is in lumnes and color is in kevins.

I know this ***** is confusing as hell.

I too was new to HID conversion, never thought about it before, was always content with whatever until I got my GLK. This topic has been discussed over and over, including members of mbworld.org, just do a search. Opinions aside, a commonly agreed on expert is this

http://www.danielsternlighting.com/t...s/Hid/HID.html

This guy actually knows what he is talking about.... If you are really worry about safety vs coolness, read this and decide for yourself.

Good link. This is what I have mentioned before in HID conversion discussion. This article makes perfect sense when you are putting HID in you regular headlight housing, the one that doesn't have the lens. This will not work, because HID light has to be focused to be useful.
GLK and some other new cars have the lens setup just. I wonder if the lens are different in HID vs. non-HID.

Found this for general information about HIDs for those curious.

Seems that OEM 4300K are the brightest lights at 3100 lumens.
6000k - 2900 lumens
8000k - 2500 lumens

All are about 3x output of halogen light.

Here is the pic of the stock HIDs. I was trying to make it look as similar to your pic as possible. As you can see it's not as blue. I was very concerned about the look, but the stock HID's look just fine. Maybe not as blue as some others, but def good HID look. Also I think they look better in person than on pics.

Indeed looks crisp close and upfront - for that look alone I am going to do that.

When you get a chance, can you please post some picks of the view from behind the wheel? I am curious to see how focused (crisp or hazy) the beams are with the stock non-HID housing and projector lenses.

Thanks!

Don
