Adaptive Headlights Inoperable

A few days ago while starting up the GLK first thing in the morning I got the following display in the instrument cluster..."Adaptive Headlights Inoperable". I drove to work and then cycled the ignition off and back on. I watched the xenons do their thing against the wall in front...rotate left and right up and down etc. The message went away and has stayed off.

Any thoughts?...no nasty weather, or car washes...light switch in A mode.

As long as the error message is off from MFD, and you see the headlights do its thing during start up, I would not worry about it

I am not too concerned since the message went away...like the Russian manual for the space station indicates "if something isn't working first give it a good kick to get the gyros started up".

Hmmm did'nt the Russian Space Station crash back to Earth a few years ago?

I wonder if you had turned off the engine right away and restarted if it would have gone away. Well its prob worth a mentiion on ur first vist to MB Service.

+1 I agree it is worth mentioning and if it occurs again; time to visit the device department.

OK it happened to me yesterday morning. Pulled out of a parking lot and before I got on the road I noticed this bulb graphic on the info screen saying Adaptive Headlights Inoperable. I drove onto the road and at the stop light I turned off the engine and then restarted and it seemed to fix itself, not had it since.

When first started, the GLK goes through a full systems check... just like jetliner. Sometimes not all systems react fast enough for the computer to give the okay.... so it sends an error code. It could be that one or both of the HID motors gets a little stuck as it goes through its cycle on start-up... maybe too new.... as stated... probably a one time deal and all is okay... but if it happens again, take it in. They'll read the fail codes from the system. It will tell the mechanics exactly what is wrong and how to fix it.
