lol...older formula1 driver is not why older ppl buy MB and not younger ones. Not many 20 something year olds can or should buy a brand new MB. I'm still not sure if buying 50k car at 24 was the best choice. But for sure glad I got 50k SUV instead of 50k sports car.

Old news.... what company isn't? Show me one that's seeking "old farts" and I'll show you the old GM! (You all know what happened to them, don't we?)

I don't know, Buick seems to producing some very nice automobiles lately...but then again, when my wife saw one she said "but, it's a Buick"...

I said the "old" GM, not the "New" GM!

I associate Buick with Old, and therein lies the New GM's biggest hurdle.

not sure i'm following.... GM has whole different set of problems, they had no strategy, the product develoment would take years (comaro was shown 4 years ago and finally made it to the streets this year), and realibility sux for many products (there is 70+ point check on comaro forums, that's how badly they are made).

MB on the other hand is really following older crowed (look at E class ads), that's the crowd that has money.

Are you not following me or Redux? I would guess it's me. I would say GM has a major brand problem, which is multiplied by all the things you stated above, including the fact their best line, Buick, is associated with retirees.

I think both MB and Buick are associated with older people; perhaps MB with those who are a bit more affluent (or live in Los Angeles!).

Most marketing is aimed towards younger people (except maybe denture cream); younger people remain customers longer.

Companies like MB have to balance that with the reality that most young people are not in the market for a $60-$100K car.

I also agree that some of the new Buicks look good. What I don't understand is when a car company decides to make a dramatic change, why they don't start a new name. Buick could have been built under a new name and Hyundai could have come out with an elite line for their Genesis and Genesis Coupe. Genesis could have been to Hyundai what Acura is to Honda.
