New GLK 350
I recently purchased my first MB in my life which was GLK 350 with steel grey color.
Mine just is equiped with premium package, appearance package, heated seat, and ipod integration kit. I really wanted to have 4matic and lighting package, but I did not have enough money to have them all.. Overall, it is pretty ok, but just one that is hurting me is SUV without AWD. Since I am living in Seattle, I do not really care about snowy weather before, but someone warned me this year will be a lot of snow in my area.. So just wonder, do you guys think is that ok to drive my GLK during winter time or should I just stay home when it is snowing outside?? Also, the MSRP was about $ 42000, but what I paid was $39000. Did I pay reasonable amount for that GLK?? |
Cool. Congrats on your new car! :)
I think for light snow a non-AWD would be will be fine as long as you have good set of winter tires. |
Buy snow tires and rims and you'll be fine. It's not as good as AWD but with traction control, ABS, the weight of the GLK etc you'll be fine. Assuming you drive defensively.
Cheers and best of luck. The GLK takes a while to grow on you, at least it did for me. It ain't no G35. Cheers |

Your GLK will do fine in Seattle's weather: :zoom: GLK's video |
if your friend can predict the weather and it has you worried, he must be pretty good, can he predict the lottery for me?

Welcome to MBW and Congrats on the new ride

Cheers and best of luck. The GLK takes a while to grow on you, at least it did for me. It ain't no G35. Cheers I have one of each (well, the G35 is now a G37) and as fun as the Infiniti is the GLK is much more practical. I think they make a good pair. Welcome, random07, and enjoy your new GLK! |
Even in moderate snow you will be fine. Only if you have to climb up a steep hill on heavy snow you will have a problem. Just think, the majority of pickup trucks have RWD and have been doing fine for 100 years now. Just drive a little more defensively.

Congrats on the new car. I think it snowed in Seattle today so hope you were able to drive around alright. was hearing from a good portion of my team in Redmond that they weren't able to make it to work,,

c-o-n-g-r-a-t-u-l-a-t-i-o-n-s & welcome to the GLK family!:y
:zoom: you're right, the BiG one is coming. Order yourself a set of snow from TireRack with rims and you'll be fine. The Blizzaks are the best selling snows and go with 17" wheels, so the snow won't bother you. |

You would pay at least 48K here in Canada for that. |

When the Hawaiian currents move toward our coast, it will be an el nino (spanish ... say it like neenyo) winter, warmer and wetter. When cooler currents run near, it's a la nina (neenya) winter, cooler with more snow than usual. Kn. |
Weather ppl can't what's gonna happen tomorrow half of the time, never mind 5-6 months out.
They can watch whatever they want and make it as much of a science, but they are still guessing more than predicting. Way too many unknown variables. |
Spent 35 years in Seattle. If you live in an outlying area and need to drive into Seattle proper you should have gotten a 4matic. But adding a set of studded snow tires will do wonders. Just stud the rears, or even just snow tires all around will do fine. The threads on this forum for winter wheels and tires are great.
If it snows a foot nobody can make it out anyway. But for a light snow almost any car will work if you fit it out and learn how to drive. Carry chains in the trunk for heading to the pass. |

But I think I did say "...adding a set of studded snowtires...", did I not? :smash: |

On a 4x4 we never used studs or snowtires.

I lived in Atlanta for a few years; not enough snow to justify special tires but just enought to engender a healthy respect for driving in the stuff. Black ice, now; that was a different animal altogether! I rarely regret my decision to move back to Southern California, especially in winter... |
Hey, I have a GLK 350 with 4matic, and I live in Boston. The snow here sucks, but my car handles fine with sport tires, although it tends to slip in the back a little and braking is worsened if there's too much snow on the road. However, winter tires should fix any snow related problems. :)

Seattle is on seven hills just like San Francisco except for the ice and snow. Stay away from those hills when there is a chance of black ice in the area. Even if you have the proper level of equipment on your Benz you have no control over who you will be sharing the road with and as a service rep for a large IT group based out of Seattle for many years I shouldn't need to remind you what I quickly learned while driving there. The vast majority of drivers in Seattle (and most of the state actually) really don't have a clue how to drive in winter and are unsafe just to be around.
I still remember watching a women in a new BMW with all four wheels locked, skidding into a row of parked cars while screaming out the open window "Get out of the way! I don't know what to do". Just remember that your ESP and ABS systems are disabled below 3 mph because they can't get reliable readings from the ABS sensors at very low speeds. If you find the Benz skidding and not responding to steering input ... take your foot off the brakes and let the wheels start to turn again. Locked wheels cannot provide braking OR steering traction. |
