Replacing SmartKey battery on GLK with Keyless-Go
1. It only uses one 2025 battery instead of two.
2. The cover pops open instead of slides out.
LEFT PICTURE: I have attached below typical instructions (below, screen shot copied from manual) very commonly found on the internet. Unfortunately, they don't apply to our Keyless-Go SmartKey on the GLK. It took me awhile to realize that the battery tray was not going to slide out.
RIGHT PICTURE: Here is the video instruction which works for me:

Found my batteries at $1.25/unit at Mountain Equipment Coop.
I know for one that the Richmond one works separately from the dealership as I was told by my Sales Advisor. I have been told by him that if i ever run out of battery in my remote, i can just bring it to him and get it changed.

The one thing I miss about the BMW keys is that they stored a copy of all the service data, owner settings and DTC codes in the key. Whenever you needed to see a service advisor you would bring the key to the service advisor and he would put the key fob in a reader and all of the information he needed to see would be uploaded into his computer. If you opted for a live data transfer setting the car would send any DTC's and error data in real time to BMW and generate a service call automatically.
