Yes, I did. I bought the Yakima rack for two bikes, and it worked very very well. The rack wobbles just a small amount in the mount, but nothing to ever be concerned about. The rack tilts down, so that even with two bikes loaded, you can still open the rear hatch. I would buy it again.

I have a Thule 4 bike rack. It's actually a 2" receiver model, so I have to also use a 'reducer' part for it. Works well.
While I like the Thule bike rack (tilts, has a built in lock), the locking bolt to put in the receiver was crap. Ended up breaking the bolt and had to have it drilled out.... Now I use a simply 'locking pin' (vs screw bolt) and it quick and easy.

That's happens in every overcrowded meggaopolis.
Heck that's what happen to me with my first MCoupe in '06!
That said, it's more of a deterrence in my eyes of the tailgaters than the side swipers.
We anticipate less of a chance from being attacked from the side. LOL!

The Compulsive Lane Changer where there is no room would be a sub-species of the Genetic Tailgater. That is what the rear fog light is for. Blink it a few times. They think you are driving a standard Moron Mobile with non-funtioning brake lights. Some of them will back off. If that doesn't work, hit the GO button when you see a break in traffic. Leave them behind. Grinning. The bike rack and a couple Thrift Store bikes might come in handy.

I'm one letter off...
I'm a CLK, not GLK owner, but I have a 1 1/4" hitch as well. I just picked up this Allen 3 bike hitch rack, and haven't had a chance to really test it out, but it feels pretty sturdy.
Now I don't have to worry about scratching my beautiful black opal paint with a trunk rack.

I have the Thule 990. It is probably the least expensive, comes with 1-1/4 tongue and adapter for 2". I have a Curt 2" hitch. The rack loads very easily and doesn't scratch the bikes. I didn't want to lift the bikes and didn't want them banging into each other or the wheels spinning. It does sway forward and back over Road crowns at intersections and RR tracks at high speed. You will need a locking hitch pin STL-2 so someone doesn't steal it when you are off riding. You can buy locks for the arms to keep the bikes from being removed. It folds up close to the back with no bikes. It can be installed and removed quite quickly, so I don't leave it on. If you have a bike without a high bar between the seat and the headset, you will need a 982XT frame adapter. This provides a place for the upper clamp to attach.
Good luck.
Good luck.

So I traded my GLK in and don't plan to use this bike rack anymore.

Almost new, I think I used it less than 5 times.
