What I'm about to say is not meant to offend anyone but I think the reason for joining a forum like this is to get opinions, suggestions, advise and facts about varied subjects not to tell you to read a manual. We all had to do that before the internet. At least GLKKa2H told him what page in the link to find his answer. We all appreciate being pointed in a direction as long as it's the right direction. Again no offense intended.

Well I got no answers here and didn't want to run around with one headlight all weekend, so after 3+ hours screwing around with the stupid spring clip, and in spite of serious misgivings, took her in to the dealer to find out what the "secret" was.
Now I fully expected them to say "we don't install parts not bought here" and/or "we'll need to write a service order, have a seat over there...it'll only be a few hours" and/or "that'll be $100 labor and $30 for the bulb" (which i got at Wal-Mart for $9.50)......to change a freaking light bulb!!....etc. but to my shock and delight they couldn't have been more accommodating!
The service mgr. got a mechanic to come out to the car immediately and after 15-20 minutes of HIS fiddling got her done...and at NO CHARGE!! Threw him a nice tip and off I went....who'da thought??
So here's the way it works....'cause if you haven't blown a headlamp yet, you will!
A wire spring bale holds the lamp (H7 for a low beam). It's shaped roughly in a U shape. It is inverted and the top 1/2" or so sticks out the the top.
Simply pull the bale up to release the lamp, NOT down as the instruction manual cited above says....that's when all hell breaks loose as it comes out in your hand....and then you're f---ed like I was.
To replace it, insert the lamp in the socket and push down on the bale.....done!
Hope that helps when it's your turn.......like I said, the day WILL come!!

I would strongly advise against replacing the low beam bulb yourself. The location of the bulb is very difficult to reach, especially if you have large hands. Also, the official MB manual is erroneous in stating that the bulb retainer clip is released by pressing down. Doing so will likely pop the clip out of it's slots at the base, and then you run a fair chance of the clip dropping irretrievably into the body. MB does not sell the clip by itself; you can only purchase it as part of the complete headlight assembly, roughly $300 US.
Sad to say, but you are much better off taking the auto to the dealer and paying them to assume liability for any issues resulting from the retaining clip.

I don't want to bump off the doomsayer newbie's first post "but" when I had my GLK, on the driver's side there's no room (same for the C-Class and E-Class), to change hi/lo beam or do a HID install. The way to do it is.... wait for it..... wait.......... wait.............. wait for it................ wait some more............ and now....
remove the front wheel and inner liner - it's how the dealership does "all" 3 models... it gives you a clear shot to the back of the housing...
You guys need to get on EPC and get a current WIS off of eBay - and quit freaking out...

Personally, I've never owned a vehicle whose bulbs burned out and needed replacement in the first couple of years until the GLK. Then to make matters worse, it's not easy to replace. I understand these bulbs burn out so quickly due to the lack of moisture protection that are found on other vehicles such as an o-ring, etc. These designs generally allow the bulb to last several years before needing replacement. Don't understand why MB did not incorporate this in to their design given the cost of the vehicle.

Please tell me that the Forum Police don't have a new Deputy.
A quick, like 30 seconds, search of the GLK 350 (X204) forum yielded this...
Page 4 gives the instructions for the GLK.

We don't want you to get the wrong idea. We would like your comments and questions but, do you know what a sticky is? If not read this one please.

We want to go out of our way for you but as you will find out patience is not always a virtue here.
What I did notice is this is only your 2nd post neither of which shows us pictures of your GLK. Since you have been here since August you're not so new but lets see pix anyway and welcome to the forum

Replacing GLK driving bulbs
Hi all,
New owner of a GLK and new member to the forum.
Thank you for the thread as I followed the details and was able to replace both low bean bulbs in under an hour complete.

First MB? They are notoriously hard on light bulbs...
