Engine oil level reading half full is it correct

Hey guys, just check my oil, it's currently reading between the Min and Max. The manual say it's ok and correct. I've always thought it needs to be add on any car. What is the "correct" level, right under the Max mark?

if so how much to add 1/4 quart? and what type of OEM oil(Mobil 1) to add?

thanks

If you had found my thread from a few days ago you would know that my oil is at the same level. In the middle between max. & min. Leave it alone. If it gets to MIN. add 1 quart of Mobil 1 that meets the correct spec. for your car. That information is located here, at MBUSA online, your owner's manual and your dealer. Call Park Place. I'm sure they know. DO NOT PUT THE DIESEL ENGINE OIL IN YOUR GLK 350. Walmart sells the correct Mobil 1 0W-40 Euro spec. oil. The label on the back says that it meets M-B Spec. 229.5. Accept nothing else.
Enjoy your GLK 350.

ps: Be thankful the oil wasn't overfilled. That happens a lot. M-B changed the oil capacity a few years ago. Some people didn't get that memo.

Wayne, I was at Park Place this morning, IPhone will not connect to blue tooth. I just forgot to ask the dude about that. I just walk up and questions about the touch up paint and the phone.

when got home, i open the manual, said the same thing. I thought sort of unusual for a 2K miles car to run that low. Thanks

The manual says the engine oil capacity is 7.4 qts. Unfortunately I don't know where 7.4 qts. Lands on the dipstick. Would one of the DIY oil change folks help us out? My GLK was at 4,300 miles, mostly highway miles, and showed exactly midway between min. and max. Maybe that is "full"?

I didn't said it was low. All of my cars fill right up to the Max level. To me it just meant add oil and not running to close to to Min level.

Will it read over the max level on your dipstick - when your crank case has condensation during the winter months or you make short trips & you have oil @ the max level,

Do you think your car will be eating oil for you to consider it possibly going below Min?

Or will you will be needing it filled to the max on the stick dip cause you will be driving in hot weather & high speeds?

Simple... On the dipstick there is a safe range. You can check it either hot or cold. When cold the level should be mid+ of the safe range. When hot it should be closer+ to the top of the safe range. Never overfill. If the oil level is overfull when checked hot, drain some until it's at or slightly below the top of the safe range.

Thanks. Most of us learned that back in the Land Before Time. My question is: Where should the oil be on the dipstick with 7.4 qts. (oil capacity according to M-B) of oil in the engine? Lets assume cold.
"Bueller? Bueller? Anybody?"

I think I just answered my question. If the level is midway between max & min when cold, then there is room for expansion when hot. Correct?

Yes, oil expands but syn-oil doesn't expand that much. And yes, at 7.5 quarts US, my oil level is approx. 20-25% below the top of the safe range.

Thank you! That is most helpful. So, our GLK may have used a bit of oil in 4,300 miles. To be expected with a new engine.
