Use of bluetooth phone

Is there any way of using the Bluetooth phone connection without having the audio 20 system on? Would like to be able to receive phone calls through the system when the radio happens to be off.

I'm pretty sure it should work that way, no?

No, your audio system must be turned on to use Bluetooth phone.. or how would you expect to hear ?

We have 2 Toyotas that have factory bluetooth, and both work fine with the radio turned off. You still hear it ring through the car speakers, and then the information comes up on the touch screen and if you want to answer you just press the answer button on either the screen or the steering wheel.

In fact, in both cars as soon as you start the car, the screen says "connecting to phone...." regardless of whether the radio is turned on or not.

Are you saying that the phone does not connect to the system unless you are listening to the radio? So if I want to make an outgoing call, I must first turn on the music? If so then I think I may have to reconsider my plan to get a GLK. That is a deal breaker.

In all the other cars I have been in that have bluetooth, the bluetooth is always on and working even when the radio is turned off. I guess technically the "audio system" is always on even when it's not actively playing something.

That's the way it is with my 2012 GLK. If the system is off, the Bluetooth connection to my iPhone does not work. I don't know if this is true for the 2013 model.

I have the habit of leaving the system on so my iPhone connects. If I don't want to hear the radio, I just turn the volume down. No big deal, really.

I'm not sure about the audio 20 system, but the command system is always on in my 2013. If you don't want audio, you just hit the mute button, but bluetooth is always on.
