Ordered and buying a New 2015 GLK 250

Hello Everyone!

I placed a 3,000 Cash USD downpayment on a 2015 GLK 250 in August. I wanted to have exactly what I wanted inside and the options I wanted and not wanted....this is why this was a factory order. This will be my 5th MB having 2 190's (too small) one 300E and my trade-in, a 05 C240 4-Matic.

The delivery is expected in mid-November. Kind of a trimmed down version, w/ just a options. Polar White @ N/C and the following equipment list;

Base: $39,400.00
Options
Sport Package
AMG body styling
19-inch AMG 5-spoke alloy wheels
Aluminum roof rails @ $1,990
Interior Ambient Lighting Package $310.00
SiriusXM Radio $460.00
Media Interface $310.00
Becker Pre wiring and Becker map Pilot $200/$600
Subtotal: $43270.00
Other ChargesTransportation Charge $925

Your GLK250 BlueTEC SUV | Total at $44,195

I have a 2005 C240 with 177K for trade in, (I am trying to sell outside the transaction but, to date one low offer). KBB + $4,000 Trade-In value, (yet to be appraised by the dealer).

My salesman said that he had 6% to discount off MSRP and I met him 1/2 way and split it to a discount of 1335.05, leaving my cost at 43099.95.

Today, w/ trade-in and cash down and 3K kicker, at 10k, I was approved by MB finance. I paid off another MBF loan and was "pre-approved" by them this morning. To keep my salesman happy and awake today, I pasted the approval to him as, after all, he's a good guy.

I am asking everyone, is there anything to add or comment on? Should I ask for the Invoice? My TU is 711 and seems to make MB Finance happy. What would you suggest that I do till then? Would you ask for any further concessions? I certainly will check the car over before I take it. As on now, I am going to clean up my current car and....wait.

Any thoughts or comments would be very much appreciated! Wish me luck &

Thanks!!!

Where do you live? Depending on your market, there is $1500-$3000 dealer cash on the MY15 GLK right now. Dealers here in LA are selling at invoice - $3k. The incentive might change next month when you take delivery, but it's highly unlikely MB will reduce it.

Then again, if I'm understanding correctly they gave you an additional $3k on your trade in? That might have been the dealer cash being applied.

Thanks Alex. I'm in Jacksonville, FL. The 3k was a cash deposit. I was just told it is waiting to board the ship and should take 3 weeks. Are you telling me in LA these are going for 3000 less than dealer invoice? I hope you like your GLK!
Is this your 1st Benz?

alexkhane 10-17-2014 05:27 PM

Yeah, but it's the ultimate buyer's market out here. 2015 C-Class start selling for $3k below invoice just one month after launch.

Not my first Benz - swap every now and then between MB and BMW. Usually prefer BMW for the better driving characteristics, but pleasantly surprised at the GLK - the X3 drives a bit too harsh, and the Q5 drives like a Lexus. MB got it right with the GLK, and the fuel economy is just icing. With mainly surface street driving, I've been getting just under 30 mpg.

My wish list is similar but for the sake of cost, I would have skipped the AMG pkg., added premium 1, lighting pkg., the HK system & the trailer pkg. What colour?

alexkhane 10-17-2014 06:15 PM

What APR did MBFS get you? IIRC the base APR is 2.99% right now, with dealers able to mark it up to 3.99%. Credit unions & even CapitalOne can get you better rates.

All I can say my deal for ED of 2014 GLK250 last year was 10% off MSRP without any negotiation - 6% off for ED automatically and additional 3% off from the ordering dealer.

I've selected polar white, P1, lighting pkg, hitch and Becker pre-wiring only since the Becker module is on eBay for $200-$250.

Original Mercedes financing was 3.49%( I could not get a loan at any bank but Mercedes Financing while car was not in my posession) , but I've refinanced it right away as soon as I got the car with local Chase loan with 2.19%.

Normally I am trying to get a new car at invoice or lower and sell my old one by myself.

Since that car was for my wife the next one ( if all goes as planned ) will be redesigned 2016 GLK 250, which I am going to order next summer/fall. So far I like our little diesel very much.

And no destination fee with ED - another $925 saving ( but the round ticket to visit my parents was about the same saving).

Hi everyone. Thanks for your comments. This GLK was ordered in Polar white, because of the harsh sun in Florida. I've driven BMW cars before and think them top quality but, I really like the older MB and of course the SL models. However, I was on the road in New Orleans and had some issues and visited one of the NO MB dealers and spoke with a service tech, who told me about the upcoming 250 engine. I was sold then. I had a 4 cylinder Peugeot wagon once that was small but, the GLK reminded me of that car. Thanks for you comments again!

After a year of owning the 250, I would say the only reason to own this car is the engine. Backseat is tight, trunk is relatively small for SUV, no room for a spare, base car does not have leather or HIDs. The MPG and the torque go along way to offset these negatives.

I'm very hesitant to own this outside warranty though, DEF emission problems outside warranty could become a very expensive headache.

Maybe I can help. Geico has a extended warranty program, to owners that buy their vehicle brand new. It is available if you vehicle covered is less than 18 months old, with less than 18,000 miles on it. Good for up to 7 years and 100,000 miles.
Fearing a mechanical breakdown is a ever present concern on any motor vehicle. I hope this doesn't happen to you but, the ad blue system wouldn't be too bad to fix, it under the car and easy to get at. I don't use my backseat in my C240 nor the sunroof for that matter. Don't see the rear storage issue a problem and actually will benefit from folding the seats don when needed. This sedan has limitations and can't wait to get in and out of a higher car, not being low.

I appreciate your comments and hope you continue to stand by a World Class brand such as MB!

Thanks for info! I just added it to my geico policy. Seems like a good deal, pay an extra $158 x 6 years = $948. Much cheaper than the 3-4k for Mercedes extended

Not clear if covers the DEF adblue though...

bberge9 10-18-2014 08:12 PM

Geico also has a safety course online. It's kind of long but, will reduce your policy expense and cost 19.95. My policy cost was immediately. Now, is your 250 experience getting better?

I'm with you on leaving out the AMG. P1, and lighting as they add useful features Where the AMG is cosmetics.

bberge9 10-21-2014 07:02 PM

Hello Les F. I ordered the AMG package because of the rims. Last time I went with my old rims, I lived with it for 10 years. All the electronic extras come and novelties come with a risk as MB has great mechanical engineering but lack in electronics. Good case in point is the obsolete numerical keypad used yet these days. I'm am at a loss as to what HK is?!?!
A small note on the AMG appearance. With out this, the smiley face appearance doesn't help. Look at what happened to the SL models without AMG. Their resell value dropped off!

The link below states "MBI is available for new or leased cars that are less than 15 months old and with less than 15,000 miles.
Once you've purchased MBI, you can renew it for up to seven years or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first). After a $250 deductible on a covered loss, MBI covers repairs to all mechanical parts of the car (except for maintenance and wear and tear*)."

Is this MBI different from what you call "Extended Warranty"?

That Geico link is exactly what I added to my insurance. On the "surface" it appears it covers much more than Mercedes Extended Warranty.. everything except wear and tear but a $250 deducible for each 'individual' issue.

Based on online comments, seems people have not had any problems getting Geico to cover expensive repairs. The only unknown is how much they jack up the premium for MBI over time... and you're pretty much locked into Geico for 7 years, but MBI can transfer to a new owner if they have Geico so resale should be easier.

I just did the math. We bought a 2014 glk 250 in July and ended up negotiating 14% off retail before trade in.

bberge9 10-22-2014 05:35 PM

Hello Schlava; I believe that because of the end of the year for 2014 models coming to an end, you see discounts like this? I was told there was 6% off MSRP to work with on 2015. Mine a special build list didn't meet the same criteria as the 2014 model. You have a nice deal and hope you're happy with your GLK 250!

14%....WOW!

schlava 10-22-2014 08:35 PM

We love it. Yes I knew that would be pushing when the 15's came out and that would definitely help. It's my wife vehicle and it replaces her escalade. She loves it

Dealers are definitely motivated to make room for new inventory. We got well over 15% off of our '14 250Bt earlier this month with no trade-in.

I think the demand for 250bt depends where you live. I got 12% off 43k MSRP (30 miles on the lot, no trade in, no dealer financing, no haggling,) back in 2013.

The size is exactly why I bought our GLK350. We have no kids but wanted something our boxer would be comfortable in and the GLK is perfect.

Leather and HIDs are available as options if you want them; obviously leather was not a priority for us because of the dog...
