Hello friends,

I am a proud new owner of a 2013 GLK 350 4Matic! Very pleased with the purchase. Although it was a very used car, (60,000 Miles) I plan on taking care of it from the ground up and holding onto it for a long time!

Please let me know if there is anything I have to do (maintenance) or anything with such a high mileage car!

This is my first Mercedes!!

Welcome to MBWorld! Grats on your purchase. Asides from the typical make sure services have all been done and fluids checked off, just follow the set maintenance plan and you'll be good :y

curious what you paid for it and which month/year did u get it?

I paid 26 grand for the car and its a 2013 i bought it this past saturday :D

So I have a question....

When I purchased my car, I saw that the front tires are worn down much more than the rear tires.... is that normal on a 4matic? I've got the 20 inch AMG rims and Pirelli Scorpion tires on them. I just want to know if I should be concerned....

That's pretty normal on all cars. That's why tire rotation is recommended.

What is "much more"?

It is possible for the front tires to be more worn than the rear tires if they were never or rarely rotated. The fronts will wear quicker because of scrubbing in turns. However, properly rotated tires should show similar wear.

Perhaps they chose to replace only two tires? Check the tread depth against the specs of new tires. Determine whether you need two new tires or just rotation.

I wish I could have taken a photo of them, but basically it looks like it's been toed out (front tires) and now that you mention it, I don't know when the last time the car had a proper tire rotation, but I know the car was serviced by a mercedes dealership. (the previous owner leased the car) I guess its time for me to check the service manual and see if the tires were rotated, but if not ill just get an alignment done!

Is the front grill type "triangle" piece where the license plate is a stock piece? The silver piece on the front bumper?

At higher mileages - the transmission will need a service at 70k, but it should be good for another 70k. I would definitely not skimp on the transmission service as these can be sensitive to poor maintenance.

Engine wise, it appears to be a solid engine, just perform oil changes with top grade synthetic every 10k ( it seems a lot, but it will help you in the long run) I would avoid some of the lower grade synthetics as the variable valve timing system in the modern MD cars can be sensitive to viscosity changes with temperature etc.

Apart from that.... enjoy the car!

How many miles do you do a week on average?

We do approx. 1k a week and it's pretty expensive on some of the serviceable parts - but it's under warranty. If you are putting heavy miles on the vehicle, I would recommend the oil changes and do the other services parts on a time basis, as opposed to mileage, such as air filter and cabin filter etc.

I plan on doing all the servicing myself, so I was just wondering what needs to be done with the transmission more specifically? Is it just a Transmission Fluid change?

The transmission service is a regular transmission service, so transmission fluid, filter and possibly gasket too.

That said, it is not a job that has been designed to be performed outside of the dealer network. There is no dipstick etc. nor convenient way to fill the transmission fluid, so you will have to drop the pan etc. to change the fluid/filter etc.

Of all the jobs on the GLK - this is one of the big ones... if you are capable, then this is not too bad, but the cost of the filter, gasket and MB transmission fluid together is pretty pricey and not too different to what the dealer charges for the service.

I couldn't possibly say, you'll have to call your local dealer.

You can try a good independent that is close to you if you prefer to save some money, but considering the 7g plus is every 70k, it's an acceptable cost for that job imo.

That said, it is doable yourself once you have all the parts.

70K transmission service is about $370 at a dealer in PA.
