Ravenol HLS 5W30?
I just got a Ravenol transmission service kit from BLAU for my 2014 GLK250 and they enclosed a flier on Ravenol CleanSynto motor oil. I believe its their HLS 5W30 that the Bluetec uses. I've been using Mobil 1 ESP 5W30 but was wondered if anyone is using the Ravenol and why.
Thanks

Never heard of Ravenol, but according to a recent study published on bobistheoilguy there is no significant difference in engine wear between oil brands that meet the various standards.
What is important is making sure that the oil that you are using meets the merceds standard for your engine and emission system.
Your glk250 required 229.51 standard when manufactured. 229.51 has since ben superseded by 229.52. As long as the oil meets the 229.52 standard you should be fine.
Does Mobil 1 ESP 5W30 qualify as 229.52?

Yes, the Mobil 1 ESP 5W30 is MB approved 229.52. I pick up 12 qts. off of Ebay this week from a dealer in PA for $109. which is a good price.
Here is a link for the Ravenol also MB approved 229.52. They are a German company that has been around since 1946, very involved in racing with a US division. They supposedly have a CleanSynto Technology that doesn't build up on parts.

Both the Ravenol 5-30 as well as Mobil1 5-30 are approved oils.
Me? I use Mobil 1 because Wal Mart has the 5 quart jugs on sale frequently
By the way, the older 272 engine and the newer 276 V6 gas engines seem to spec out as using list 229.5 with the diesels the only ones spec'ing out on 229.51 and 229.52 oil. The 223.2 sheet that will tell you the sheet to use is here:

The 229.5 sheet is here:

but you can get to it also from the main listing on the first link.

Yes, the gas and diesel engines use different oils.
Gas is 229.5
Diesel is 229.51 superseded by 229.52.
I use MB oil from the dealer because believe it or not, it is only about $7 a quart.
