Are the options you posted the non-Takata make?

I don't want to wait on the recall and would not mind coming out of pocket for something safer + nicer like the ones posted here.

Not too long ago I bought a 3/4" drive torque wrench and 1 1/4" (32mm) twelve point socket to prepare for the front and rear bearing maintenance. Still need to get a 3/4" extension and some more parts.:naughty:

So if anyone ever has a lane keep assist failure from the steering wheel, the replacement vibration motor is 218-906-28-00. All steering wheels have the space for the vibration motor, but not all steering wheels have it installed. If you do install it you need to add an extra wire to connects to the circuit board.

Installed Titanium torx screws. I had galvanized steel ones that were ugly and corroded. Now I never have to worry about that ever again. Despite being in direct contact with water, sunlight, chemical agents, dirt they will never tarnish.

Where did you find them there fancy paddles?

They are shared with some other models, you can get them at any dealership for about $90 a pair.

If you like to shift gears with the paddles they are a must have or even if you have your hands at the horizontal position they feel necessary. At first glance they still look like plastic to me, but they definitely feel hotter/colder than plastic once I had them on.

I am so glad I did the steering wheel mods as a priority. You spend 100% of the time holding onto the steering wheel while driving, so it doesn't hurt the wallet to invest in a comfortable, good looking, durable steering wheel.

wow the steering wheel looks great, keep us posted on how installation goes. more importantly how wheel bearing service goes, prob not a job for faint of heart.

I dont think the wheel bearing will be hard to do. You just need a big torque wrench and giant circlip pliers among common tools. I wont be due for them until 100,000 mile/ 160,000 kilometers, but imma do them early. My friend will help me as he he has big impact tools for the axle nut removal.

So been kinda procrastinating, but bought a whole bunch of transmission and spark plug stuff. Just hit 80,000 miles/128,750 kilometers!:zoom: I went with a mix between Mercedes and OEM parts.
-722.9 transmission oil
-transmission washer
-transmission filter (a2212770200)
-Transmission seal
-other hardware

-Bosch spark plugs
-Air intake seals, UPPER (a2761410180)

Another side project is the rear and front dome light from the W212 and CLS550 cars. This requires some rewiring, but i have already ordered the correct wire harness from the dealer so it just needs the headliner remove and plug-n-play when it arrives. This will allow my passengers to use the lights in the back. Philips LED bulbs will be used.

I might also do a full black headliner conversion. The rough cost to do a black headliner conversion with original mercedes parts is around $1300 USD. I might also test the waters with black and light grey two tone headliner.

One more small thing i am changing is the interior LED to the W222 S550 interior lights. they completely interchange in the slot, but you will need to rewire.

Oh here is the black dome light from a W212. I love the way this opaque plastic cover looks with the black border.

If you ever intend to change the color of the dome light I recommend just buying a black one from a W204 C250. The E and CLS "can" interchange but the electrical connectors are very different, they use different bulbs, etc. Everything is similar enough that there is a way:)

Well I ended up buying the incorrect W212 E-class ceiling control console. So there was a change in connectors sometime during the refresh. OOPS!

I ended up just ordering the correct one (212-906-46-01-9051) because it is simple impossible to modify the ceiling control console and doing the rewiring is headache with engineer's diagrams.

Still waiting on my cable harness for the middle dome lights. It is gonna to be crazy to pull apart the entire headliner :D

I ordered the blacked out emblem like yours but off ebay. Turned out to be a plastic knock off I believe.

I pulled the emblem off and it wasn't the right type. I wanted to post a picture of what I had and confirm with you that the part number you posted for the black emblem would fit my '11 GLK.

All GLK350 /GLK300 / GLK250 / GLK220 have the same exact bonnet from 2009-2015. The part number I gave is the correct 2 prong style made of ABS plastic. Enjoy!

Nice build thread you have going on here! For your steering wheel upgrade, it was plug and play for you? As in all your steering wheel buttons function properly including your horn? I'm assuming you used a closely compatible steering wheel where the buttons and relay still align the same way in order to function.

I actually attempted this steering wheel upgrade months ago using a much newer model steering wheel (2016 E class steering wheel with fingerprint functionality) on my 2010 GLK350 with minimal success. i even retrofitted my original contact plate and circuitry to fit into this steering wheel as well as replaced the fingerprint module to the older buttons and still can't even get the horn to work properly.

You need all physical buttons (with arrows), the cable, airbag, and the correct contact plate. Check out the W204 sedan steering wheel retrofit mod. There is a ton of good information down there.

You may find that the front bearings are pressed in. I have not done this on an MB but on several other German vehicles the bearings are pressed in as a complete set. You need an arbor press to press them in. To get them out you usually need to press the shaft out which actually pulls the outside inner bearing out which destroys the bearing. SInce you are going to replace the bearing anyway this is not a problem except it take an arbor press to do it. You can buy a 6 ton hydraulic A frame bench press from Harbor Freight for about $80. Creck to see if it has enough clearance for the hub assembly.

The old map light used one bulb, the new one uses three. It is pretty bright if all three are on! In addition, I am using LED so quite a difference.

I was also thinking about a black headliner with all the pillars black too, but I really like how well the black and light grey contrasts in my car. My other idea is to order black ceiling handles and black front folding mirrors. What do ya guys think?
